About the internship
About the Internship
This internship focuses on cybersecurity and network security research, offering practical experience in designing and implementing secure, efficient network solutions. The intern will work on projects spanning network architecture, security protocols, and the analysis of network performance in various environments, including traditional, wireless, and ad hoc networks. The role includes hands-on exposure to advanced simulation tools, cybersecurity techniques, and emerging technologies in networking.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deploy secure network architectures using techniques such as VLANs, ACLs, and firewalls including iptables.
- Implement secure communication protocols like WPA3, TLS, and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) to enhance data protection.
- Create and analyze network simulations using tools including NS-3, OMNeT++, and Mininet to evaluate performance metrics like QoS, congestion, and load balancing.
- Conduct research on wireless sensor networks and ad hoc networks, focusing on energy-efficient routing, clustering, and the effects of node density and mobility in environments such as VANETs.
- Develop and evaluate intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDS/IPS) using tools such as Snort, and implement secure methods for file transfer and encrypted email communications.
- Investigate emerging cybersecurity threats like DDoS and man-in-the-middle attacks and assess the effectiveness of data loss prevention (DLP) technologies in corporate settings.
Eligibility and Candidate Profile
- Must be available to work remotely and commit full-time for a 6-month internship period starting between September 10th and October 15th, 2026.
- Relevant skills and interest in cybersecurity, networking, and research are required.
- Open to women seeking to start or restart their careers.
- Preferably enrolled as Computer Science Engineering students or similar background.
Skills and Tools Expected
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking, MPLS technology, and wireless communication standards.
- Familiarity with simulation platforms such as NS-3, OMNeT++, and Mininet.
- Hands-on experience with cybersecurity tools like Snort, Wireshark, and iptables.
- Proficiency in programming languages including Python, Bash scripting, and C++ for automation and tool development.
- Knowledge of cryptographic concepts including PKI, TLS, and steganography.
Learning Outcomes
- Gain mastery in designing and securing advanced network infrastructures.
- Develop research skills in simulating and interpreting complex networking scenarios.
- Enhance problem-solving capabilities in addressing real-world cybersecurity challenges.
- Obtain proficiency with industry-standard security and networking tools.
- Stay informed about trends and innovations in wireless, ad hoc, and cloud network security.
