Overview
National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) is seeking a Railroad Flagger to join their team in Mooresville, AL. This full-time role involves overseeing safety on train tracks by controlling train movements and ensuring compliance with all federal safety regulations. The position serves a diverse client base including major railroads, local rail lines, transit agencies, state transportation departments, and contractors.
Role Responsibilities
- Manage site activities to ensure coordinated operations.
- Maintain clear communication with dispatchers, train crews, railroad personnel, and contractors.
- Conduct safety briefings prior to work commencement.
- Adhere to and enforce railroad, state, and federal safety regulations.
- Verify that contractors complete all mandatory training.
- Identify and report any safety violations immediately.
- Prepare daily documentation of work performed.
- Ensure safety compliance on-track throughout all tasks.
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum of two years’ experience working with Class 1 Railroads, Regional Short Lines, Transit systems, State DOT Rail Divisions, railroad suppliers, contractors, or consultants, preferably within Maintenance of Way (MOW) departments.
- Proficient with basic computer applications including Citrix, email, telephony, and messaging apps.
- Comfortable operating Android tablets and smartphones.
- Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
- Knowledge of railroad engineering, design, construction, and safety protocols.
- Ability to cultivate and sustain client relationships professionally.
- Willingness to travel extensively, potentially for months consecutively.
- Completion of all requisite federal, client, and company training is mandatory.
Working Conditions
- The position predominantly involves fieldwork, with an expectation to travel up to 85% of the time.
- Must possess strong English communication skills in speaking, reading, and writing.
- Physical demands include prolonged standing, walking on uneven terrain, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Good vision required, including near, far, color, and peripheral vision capabilities.
- The role requires working outdoors in various weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, dust, and noise.

- Pay ranges between $25 and $37 per hour dependent on experience.
