About the Role

The Assistant Professor position at Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College, Kolar, involves delivering high-quality clinical care, participating actively in academic teaching, supporting research endeavors, and assisting with departmental administration. This role complies with the National Medical Commission (NMC) regulations and institutional policies within the University/deemed University framework.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, ethical, and evidence-based care for patients in outpatient, inpatient, emergency, and critical care settings as assigned.
  • Carry out clinical procedures authorized under institutional privileges.
  • Supervise and guide residents and interns in patient assessment, diagnostic processes, and treatment management.
  • Engage in ward rounds, specialty clinics, emergency duties, and on-call services according to duty rosters.
  • Ensure strict compliance with clinical protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs), infection control practices, and safety guidelines.
  • Report adverse events, near misses, and sentinel events promptly according to hospital policies.

Academic and Teaching Duties

  • Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching aligned with university curriculum and NMC standards.
  • Participate actively in bedside teaching, tutorials, seminars, journal clubs, and clinical case presentations.
  • Assist in conducting internal assessments, practical exams, and university examinations.
  • Provide mentorship and academic guidance to undergraduate students and interns.

Research Responsibilities

  • Engage in departmental and institutional research initiatives.
  • Support postgraduate students in data gathering, literature reviews, and dissertation preparation under supervision.
  • Ensure adherence to Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) guidelines.
  • Contribute to academic publications, professional presentations, Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs, workshops, and conferences.

Administrative Duties

  • Assist senior faculty members with routine departmental administration.
  • Help organize and implement duty rosters, teaching schedules, and clinical service plans.
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation of medical records and academic activities.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, academic reviews, and serve on institutional committees when nominated.

Quality and Accreditation

  • Support the implementation of NABH standards concerning patient care, safety, and documentation.
  • Comply with quality indicators, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Adhere to institutional policies related to infection control, biomedical waste management, and patient rights.
  • Assist in preparations for inspections and accreditation visits by NMC, NABH, and the University.

Governance, Ethics, and Professional Conduct

  • Maintain exemplary professional ethics, discipline, and integrity.
  • Ensure confidentiality of patient information and academic records.
  • Follow the institutional code of conduct, service rules, and university regulations.
  • Assist with handling patient grievances and medico-legal matters as per hospital policy.

Preferred Candidate Profile

  • MD, MS, or DNB in Microbiology or equivalent specialty from a recognized institution as per NMC guidelines.
  • Valid registration with the appropriate State or National Medical Council.
  • Teaching experience fulfilling NMC norms for Assistant Professor roles.
  • Clinical competence in Microbiology and evidence of skill in patient care, teaching, and academic contributions.
  • Strong clinical knowledge and relevant procedural skills.
  • Effective communication and teaching abilities.
  • Collaborative mindset conducive to multidisciplinary healthcare and academic environments.
  • Basic research methodology knowledge and understanding of ethics and quality standards.
  • Familiarity with NABH standards and hospital policies is desirable.

Reporting and Coordination

  • Reports academically to Associate Professor, Professor, Head of Unit, or Head of Department.
  • Reports clinically to the Medical Superintendent where applicable.
  • Coordinates with departmental faculty, hospital administration, nursing and allied health professionals, and quality/academic cells.
  • Supervises senior residents (as assigned), junior residents, interns, and nursing/technical/support staff as applicable.

Eligibility

The position is open to candidates holding an M.B.B.S. degree along with the qualifications and experience specified as per NMC norms.
