About the Role
BAE Systems Digital Intelligence comprises 4,500 professionals specializing in digital, cyber, and intelligence fields across 10 countries. Our mission is to gather, connect, and interpret complex data to provide governments, armed forces, nation states, and commercial clients with a digital edge in challenging environments.
We are looking for an energetic and driven Software Engineer to join a high-performing team working on substantial public sector projects. This position serves as the critical liaison between development, testing, network and infrastructure, operations, and system administration to ensure efficient, consistent, and high-quality delivery of software products.
You will implement processes and tooling necessary to convert source code and related artefacts into installation media or configured environments.
Note: This position requires a PV Security Clearance upon commencement and involves working onsite five days per week.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and support automation tools covering build, test, deployment for applications and infrastructure.
- Collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams to solve problems, share knowledge, and accomplish shared objectives.
- Manage products lifecycle from development through operation, including ongoing business-as-usual support.
- Oversee continuous operational support encompassing change management, incident resolution, service requests, monitoring, and maintenance.
- Embed security considerations early and throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Architect, design, and document system architectures adhering to best practices, established patterns, and frameworks.
- Provide solutions to automate deployment, management, scaling, and networking of containerized environments.
- Engage with both internal and external stakeholders to fulfill project requirements and deliverables.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Proficient in Continuous Integration methodologies, tools, and principles to build, test, and integrate software components effectively.
- Experienced in Continuous Deployment automation, particularly using Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform and Ansible.
- Strong practices in configuration and source code management of all artefacts.
- Comfortable configuring and utilizing at least one public or private cloud platform.
- Familiarity with Linux-based operating systems, preferably Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
- Hands-on experience with container platforms and orchestration tools.
- Good understanding of application development technologies to support building and deploying solutions.
- Ability to comprehend and manage legacy infrastructure and its impact within projects.
- Competency in object-oriented programming languages such as Java or .NET.
- Knowledge of secure development environments and related security practices.
- Understanding of Cross Domain Solutions (CDS) and associated technologies is considered a significant advantage.
- Minimum of three years working in a related role.
