Job description

Overview

The Shift Lead oversees store opening and closing duties in the absence of management, ensuring readiness of all systems and physical areas for daily operations while maintaining superior customer service standards.

Customer Experience

  • Welcomes and assists customers and patients regarding products and services to provide exceptional support.
  • Effectively resolves customer inquiries and issues to foster a positive shopping environment.
  • Exemplifies and promotes Walgreens’ customer service practices among the team.

Operational Responsibilities

  • Manages store keys for opening and closing as needed without manager presence.
  • Supports and guides team members with warehouse and vendor order processes, including receiving deliveries.
  • Handles cash register sales, including managing scanning errors, pricing verifications, voids, and cash drops securely.
  • Assists management in reviewing order exceptions and reverse logistics tasks.
  • Contributes to merchandise display development and executes store resets or display changes.
  • Keeps accurate inventory counts across departments and stockroom locations.
  • Ensures adherence to product dating and rotation systems to maintain stock freshness.
  • Manages pricing adjustments and ensures proper signage aligned with company and legal standards.
  • Supports bookkeeping functions such as cash reporting and bill payments when required.
  • Maintains store cleanliness and orderly appearance inside and outside, coordinating repairs when necessary.
  • Assists with appropriate food storage procedures in compliance with health policies.
  • Operates store systems and equipment effectively; provides support at the pharmacy checkout when requested.
  • Ensures compliance with regulations on controlled products like alcohol and tobacco.
  • Performs bag checks on employees leaving the store and upholds company policy and respectful team relations.
  • Completes special assignments as delegated.

Training and Development

  • Participates in training sessions and completes assigned professional development tasks.

Communication

  • Acts as a communication link between management and staff by assigning duties in management's absence.
  • Reports disciplinary concerns and customer complaints to store management promptly.

Qualifications

  • Minimum one year in a leadership, supervisory, or retail key-holder role.
  • Proficiency in English (reading, writing, and speaking) is required, except in Puerto Rico.
  • Preferred knowledge of inventory control systems.
  • Employment opportunity available for qualified individuals with arrest and conviction records.
  • Maintaining valid PTCB certification or pharmacy license as per state mandates is preferred.
