Job Overview
DXC Technology is looking for a seasoned Lead Android Engineer to architect, develop, and optimize sophisticated native Android applications emphasizing mapping, visualization, graphics, and 3D rendering. This leadership role demands deep Kotlin expertise and proven experience crafting custom rendering and visualization features.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct the architecture and implementation of complex native Android apps.
- Deliver scalable, maintainable, high-quality Android solutions utilizing Kotlin.
- Champion technical leadership through code and design reviews, setting engineering standards and best practices.
- Create custom visualization, mapping, graphics, and rendering functionalities tailored for Android platforms.
- Build custom user interface and rendering components via Android Canvas, Custom Views, and Jetpack Compose drawing APIs.
- Develop map-like rendering systems, including overlays, annotations, layers, and other spatial visualization techniques.
- Handle coordinate transformations, geometry calculations, gesture matrices, spatial relations, and hit-testing efficiently.
- Design and optimize rendering pipelines with strategies for caching, invalidation, and memory management.
- Analyze and enhance rendering performance using Android Studio Profiler and related tools.
- Implement 3D visualization features utilizing Filament or similar Android 3D rendering frameworks.
- Apply core 3D graphics principles such as transformation matrices, camera models, raycasting, scene management, and spatial transformations.
- Address and resolve complex technical challenges including rendering, memory, and architectural issues.
- Collaborate closely with product managers, UX/UI designers, backend engineers, and other stakeholders.
- Mentor and guide other Android engineers on technical matters.
- Contribute to strategic engineering decisions, uphold technical standards, and drive continual improvement in development methodologies.
Required Qualifications
- 8 or more years of professional experience developing native Android applications.
- Expert proficiency in Kotlin programming.
- Extensive hands-on experience with Kotlin Coroutines, Flow, and RxJava.
- Proven success leading technical architecture, design, code reviews, and enforcing best practices.
- Deep understanding of building scalable, maintainable, modular, and testable Android application architectures.
- Proficient in implementing custom visualization, mapping, graphics, or rendering features.
- Strong skills with Android Canvas, Custom Views, and Jetpack Compose drawing APIs.
- Solid grasp of coordinate transformations, geometry, matrices, gesture handling, and hit-testing techniques.
- Experience creating or contributing to map rendering engines, overlays, annotations, and layered visualizations.
- Knowledge of rendering optimization including caching, invalidation strategies, and efficient memory use.
- Expertise in analyzing and boosting rendering performance using Android Studio Profiler.
- Hands-on experience with Filament or comparable 3D rendering tools for Android.
- Comprehension of fundamental 3D graphics concepts: transformation matrices, camera models, raycasting, scene management, spatial transformations, and 3D coordinate systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience optimizing 3D scenes with techniques like Level of Detail (LOD), batching, culling, and asynchronous asset loading.
- Skilled in optimizing rendering across diverse Android devices and hardware.
- Familiarity with graphics APIs such as OpenGL ES, Vulkan, or Sceneform.
- Background in robotics, SLAM, computer vision, AR/VR, indoor navigation, or mapping systems.
- Experience visualizing spatial data like occupancy grids, robot paths, floor plans, or geospatial information.
- Understanding of geospatial, navigation, robotics, or spatial-computing applications.
