Job description
Overview
Join a globally recognized leader in payment solutions as a Java Software Engineer in Cambridge. Become a key contributor to one of the largest and most secure global payment platforms processing millions of transactions daily.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate within a cross-disciplinary team including developers, testers, a product owner, and scrum master while engaging in quarterly planning and design sessions based on the SAFe agile framework.
- Take ownership of complex development tasks, utilizing your established software engineering capabilities and working closely with the principal engineer for guidance.
- Act as an authorized gating code reviewer, collaborating with peers to ensure code quality and elevate the team's technical standards.
- Develop and maintain enhancements using Java, SQL, and PL/SQL for Worldpay's ecommerce payment gateway.
- Analyze payment processing workflows, review production data, dive into product code, and interpret payment industry specification documents to define and plan work.
- Partner with test engineers to devise testing strategies including automated integration and system tests when necessary.
- Design deployment and monitoring strategies for new features and occasionally provide out-of-hours support during release rollouts.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Proven software delivery experience in a high-quality-critical environment.
- Ability to solve intricate business challenges through software solutions.
- Strong expertise in Java programming and experience working with large-scale databases.
- Competence with database systems, ideally Oracle or other SQL-based platforms.
- Experience navigating extensive codebases and utilizing version control systems.
- Familiarity with Linux environments for both development and production use.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of the financial services sector.
- Experience with agile methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, and SAFe, including awareness of their benefits and drawbacks.
- Exposure to AWS cloud technologies and relevant architectural patterns.
- Understanding of enterprise computing, storage, and networking systems.
