About The Role

Calgary Girls Charter School (CGCS) is inviting applications for one full-time and one part-time Custodian to support the maintenance and operation of its educational facilities. This role is essential for upholding the cleanliness, safety, and overall environment of the school community. Custodians work collaboratively within a dedicated team under the supervision of the Facilities Manager.

Locations

The Custodian positions cover two sites: the Lakeview Campus at 6304 Larkspur Way SW and the Board Office at 7239 Flint Road SE, Unit E.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of classrooms, gym, washrooms, library, and public areas.
  • Clean and sanitise high-touch surfaces to meet hygiene standards.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and conduct deep floor cleaning as needed.
  • Clean glass doors, windows, and mirrors to enhance facility appearance.
  • Restock washroom supplies such as toilet paper, soap, and paper towels regularly.
  • Sanitise staff kitchen and break rooms.
  • Daily removal of garbage and recycling materials.
  • Pick up litter in parking lots and outdoor park spaces.
  • Report facility issues like plumbing faults or damage to the Facilities Manager.
  • Manage janitorial supply inventory and ensure timely replenishment.
  • Perform winter tasks including shovelling snow and salting sidewalks.
  • Identify and report safety hazards such as spills and trip risks.
  • Follow safety protocols and proper cleaning procedures including emergency clean-ups.
  • Ensure correct disposal of waste, including biohazardous material if applicable.
  • Assist and provide excellent customer service to staff, students, parents, and visitors.
  • Participate in team meetings and required training sessions.
  • Adhere to CGCS policies, provincial safety regulations, and workplace standards.
  • Inspect and maintain all maintenance tools and cleaning equipment in good working condition.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned by the Facilities Manager.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • At least one year of experience in janitorial, cleaning, or facility maintenance roles.
  • Ability to operate independently and take initiative.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and performing repetitive physical tasks.
  • Strong detail orientation and efficient work habits.
  • Dependable, hardworking, and flexible with changing work priorities.
  • Proficient with cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners and floor scrubbers.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent certification.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety procedures and building codes.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to obtain or current certifications in WHMIS, OH&S, First Aid/CPR.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check.
  • Capable of being bonded as per job requirements.

Work Environment & Conditions

  • Work occurs both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • May require afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts.
  • Involves frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling heavy items.
  • Regular interactions with students, staff, and third-party vendors.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly wage ranging from $20 to $23 based on experience and credentials.
  • Overtime pay available for after-hours work as needed.
  • Benefits package available after successfully completing a three-month probation period.
