Job description

Position Summary

The Line Operator 2 is a frontline role in production, primarily responsible for managing basic extrusion line operations and supporting the onboarding and training of new employees. This role involves continuous learning to operate various production lines and deepening understanding of quality standards while adhering to all safety and operational procedures according to company policy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducts fundamental production tasks including loading cores onto core tables, trimming, adjusting roll widths, and preparing finished stretch film rolls through labeling, packaging, and inspection for quality compliance. Utilizes roll weight computer systems for accurate weighing and documents finished goods appropriately. Manages scrap preparation for recycling.
  • Prepares finished goods for shipment by organizing skids with packing materials, manually or mechanically wrapping trays or boxes, and operating manual or electric pallet jacks to move completed units safely.
  • Undergoes training and performs duties across various production lines and machines to broaden skills and meet staffing needs.
  • Engages in quality control training, potentially performing quality testing and lab tasks, completing control documentation, and reporting results to management to maintain product standards.
  • Supports continuous operation of production lines, facilitates shift changes, and promptly notifies senior staff or management of operational issues.
  • Assists in training new line operators during their initial production line assignments.
  • Maintains cleanliness and readiness of work areas to ensure smooth shift transitions.
  • Performs additional tasks as assigned by management.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven proficiency in basic line operator functions.
  • Technical understanding of production machinery and systems.
  • Mechanical skills to properly use basic hand tools.
  • Competency with measurement tools including scales and weights.
  • Good judgment and adaptability in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Ability to multitask and manage interruptions while paying close attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational aptitude coupled with problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work cooperatively within a team environment.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality.
  • Effective communication in written and spoken English.
  • Basic mathematical skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in environments with static electricity interference.
  • Use of various vision modalities including near, far, peripheral, and depth perception.
  • Manual dexterity for handling, gripping, pushing, and pulling.
  • Regular pushing, pulling, and exertion activities.
  • Frequent overhead arm extension.
  • Occasional use of industrial power tools requiring enhanced manual dexterity.
  • Endurance for standing and walking on concrete floors for 12-hour shifts.
  • Frequent crouching, stooping, bending, squatting, occasional kneeling, climbing stairs/ladders, and working on elevated platforms.
  • Lifting/moving weights regularly between 45-55 lbs and occasionally up to 65 lbs.
  • Clear verbal communication in person and via paging systems.
  • Compliance with personal protective equipment requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in plastics manufacturing.
  • Ability to read and interpret Bills of Materials or Job Packets.

Environmental Conditions

The role requires working in typical production settings as encountered in extrusion and plastics manufacturing.
