Lead Software Engineer

BJAK develops technology products utilized by millions across Southeast Asia. As the company scales, it seeks technical leaders capable of addressing challenging engineering problems and enhancing the overall engineering standards.

The Lead Software Engineer will be accountable for the technical direction and delivery of significant products and systems. This is a hands-on leadership role involving system design, coding, and overseeing critical engineering efforts from conception through production.

Main Responsibilities

• Take ownership of technical design and delivery for key products, systems, and engineering projects.
• Architect scalable, reliable solutions covering backend, frontend, APIs, databases, and infrastructure.
• Collaborate with team members through coding, prototyping, reviewing code, debugging, and solving production issues.
• Lead architectural decisions balancing performance, scalability, reliability, cost, and maintainability.
• Translate ambiguous product challenges into clear technical designs and execution strategies.
• Elevate engineering quality via improved system design, testing, security, observability, and development methodologies.
• Drive critical technical initiatives and provide mentorship to engineers across teams.

Candidate Requirements

• Minimum 7 years of experience in software engineering with a track record of delivering production systems.
• In-depth expertise in backend, frontend, distributed systems, APIs, databases, or cloud infrastructure.
• Strong skills in system design and architecture for handling complex or high-scale environments.
• Proficiency in coding with a commitment to stay actively involved in development.
• Proven leadership in managing significant engineering projects from design to production deployment.
• Capability to make informed technical trade-offs, influence team members, and resolve complex production issues.

Desirable Qualifications

• Experience scaling teams, systems, or engineering practices during periods of substantial growth.
• Experience working across multiple products, markets, or international regions.

Work Environment and Language

This position offers remote work with a distributed team spanning various countries and time zones. Candidates should demonstrate effective collaboration skills within a fast-paced, international team setup. English is the primary language for communication, and strong proficiency is required.
