Role Overview

The Principal Cloud Architect will lead the comprehensive technical architecture and strategy for cloud infrastructure and application development. This senior role demands expertise in designing scalable, resilient, secure cloud-native systems and harmonizing infrastructure with application code for optimal performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design distributed, fault-tolerant, event-driven AWS architectures adhering to the AWS Well-Architected Framework.
  • Evaluate and choose suitable AWS services and technologies such as Serverless or Containers and SQL or NoSQL databases.
  • Define standards for Infrastructure as Code (IaC) automation and enforce architectural guardrails across teams.
  • Develop unified architecture blueprints covering cloud infrastructure elements (landing zones, networking, security) and application components (microservices, APIs, data pipelines).
  • Implement enterprise-grade IaC standards for fully automated and immutable infrastructure deployments.
  • Lead modernization efforts designing fault-tolerant, high-throughput serverless and containerized backends.
  • Build zero-trust security models with strong identity management, encryption, and network isolation capabilities.
  • Perform AWS Well-Architected Reviews to continuously improve cost-efficiency, reliability, and application performance.
  • Establish and maintain coding standards, branching strategies, and technical governance for DevOps and application teams.

Technical Skills & Experience Required

  • Minimum 10 years of software architecture experience, with at least 5 years focused on AWS production environments.
  • Strong expertise in AWS serverless offerings including Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge, SQS, and SNS.
  • Advanced data modeling experience with Amazon Aurora, DynamoDB (including single-table design), and caching mechanisms like ElastiCache.
  • Proficient with IaC tools including AWS CDK, Terraform, and CloudFormation managing multi-account environments.
  • Deep knowledge of AWS networking components such as VPC, Subnets, Route Tables, Transit Gateway, PrivateLink, and Route 53.
  • In-depth experience with AWS security services: IAM (Permission Boundaries, SCPs), Organizations, KMS, Secrets Manager, and AWS WAF.
  • Strong application orchestration skills using ECS (Fargate), EKS, and API Gateway; expertise in asynchronous event-driven architecture.
  • Proven capability building CI/CD pipelines integrating infrastructure and application deployments using tools like AWS CodePipeline, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI/CD.
  • Hands-on with monitoring and observability frameworks such as Amazon CloudWatch, AWS X-Ray, or OpenTelemetry.
  • Ability to produce clean, production-level code in major programming languages like Python, Node.js, Go, or Java.

Soft Skills & Leadership

  • Excellent communication skills suited for engaging both C-level executives and engineering teams.
  • Mentorship abilities to nurture infrastructure engineers towards software development and support software engineers in infrastructure best practices.
