About the Role
BJAK develops technology products utilized by millions of users throughout Southeast Asia. As the organization scales its products and systems, it requires technical leaders who can address complex engineering challenges and elevate the engineering standards around them. The Technical Lead role involves owning the technical direction and execution of key products and systems, combining hands-on development with strategic leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the technical design and implementation of major products, systems, and engineering initiatives.
- Design scalable and reliable systems spanning backend, frontend, APIs, databases, and infrastructure.
- Collaborate closely with the team by contributing code, prototyping solutions, conducting code reviews, debugging, and resolving production issues.
- Make architecture decisions balancing speed, scalability, reliability, cost, and maintainability.
- Translate ambiguous product challenges into clear technical solutions and execution strategies.
- Enhance engineering quality through improved system design, testing, security, observability, and development methodologies.
- Lead critical technical projects and mentor engineers across teams.
Qualifications
- At least 7 years of experience in software engineering building and shipping production-grade systems.
- In-depth knowledge in backend, frontend, distributed systems, APIs, databases, or cloud infrastructure.
- Excellent system design and architecture skills suited for complex and large-scale systems.
- Strong hands-on coding skills and enthusiasm for development work.
- Proven experience leading significant engineering projects technically from conception through deployment.
- Ability to make informed technical compromises, influence engineering teams, and resolve complex production challenges.
Preferred Experience
- Experience managing the scaling of engineering teams, systems, or development practices during periods of rapid growth.
- Familiarity working across multiple products, markets, or international locations.
Additional Information
Work Location: Fully remote role, with teams distributed globally across varying time zones.
Applicants should be adept at collaborating effectively within distributed, fast-paced international teams.
Language Requirements: English is the primary working language; strong communication skills in English are necessary.
