Job description
Role Overview
The Senior Solution Architect for Email & Collaboration Security (ECS) plays a critical role in addressing significant challenges in enterprise cybersecurity, including AI-powered threats, extensive collaboration platforms, and complex multi-cloud environments. This role sits at the crossroads of legacy product decisions and future innovation, requiring an understanding of past architectural choices to guide future developments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead problem discovery efforts before technical solutions are defined by collaborating with product managers, UX teams, and engineers to clarify customer needs and business goals.
- Manage and own integration contracts such as APIs, data schemas, and event contracts, ensuring durable and coordinated interfaces across product teams.
- Create architectural decision records, service interaction patterns, non-functional requirement targets, and data contracts that support consistent engineering and AI-assisted development practices.
- Implement governance that balances risk reduction and quality improvement without obstructing progress, actively engaging with senior architecture leadership to align standards appropriately.
- Analyze cost structures and unit economics with an emphasis on outcomes like protection per mailbox or incident remediation rather than just infrastructure expenses.
- Communicate effectively across all organizational levels — from detailed decision documents for engineers to strategic narratives for senior leadership.
Qualifications and Experience
- Over 10 years of experience developing and operating production SaaS systems, including a minimum of 3 years as a senior architect with substantive product-influencing responsibilities.
- Broad architectural perspective focused on systems design, data flows, and organizational factors rather than narrowly deep technical expertise.
- Familiarity and comfort with cloud-native technologies such as AWS, Kafka, managed services, and distributed event-driven architectures at scale.
- Close collaboration experience with product and UX teams, understanding jobs-to-be-done frameworks and product value beyond technical metrics.
- Strong customer-centric mindset emphasizing problem identification before solution design.
- Understanding of SaaS unit economics and scalability considerations both from technical and product viewpoints.
- Appreciation for complex legacy systems as context and an emphasis on clear, structured, and durable documentation and decision-making.
- Self-motivated with strategic initiative, able to work independently while maintaining stakeholder alignment, and able to navigate ambiguity by structuring problems.
- Advanced proficiency and daily use of AI tools for design, documentation, prototyping, and research synthesis as a core part of work processes.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience with email security technologies, threat detection, data loss prevention (DLP), identity management, or data platforms.
- Familiarity with agentic AI, model context protocols (MCP), and large language model (LLM) architectures.
- Experience designing evaluation frameworks for AI features, product discovery practices, or data mesh strategies.
- Exposure to integrations with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, SMTP relay architectures, and cloud-native security SaaS offerings.
What We Offer
- Opportunity to influence architecture decisions protecting millions of mailboxes and shaping a core product pillar's technical direction.
- Direct collaboration with the Chief Architect and a meaningful role in technology strategy beyond advisory capacity.
- Membership in a high-functioning, trusted architecture leadership team operating at an advanced level.
Additional Information
- This role is based in London, UK and is full-time onsite employment.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field required.
- Employment contingent on successful background checks consistent with local laws.
- The position complies with equal opportunity and affirmative action policies, encouraging applications from underrepresented groups.
