About the Role

As an Engineering Manager within Google Photos, you will combine deep technical expertise and leadership capabilities to guide multiple engineering teams across various locations. Your responsibilities include managing significant projects, influencing product strategies, and nurturing team growth. The role emphasizes handling large product budgets and leading the deployment of international large-scale initiatives. You will be instrumental in establishing a new video editing backend team that leverages AI advancements, notably the Gemini system, aiming to enhance video storytelling and preservation of user memories.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership by shaping technical directions and long-term strategies jointly with other managers and tech leads.
- Facilitate balanced decision-making on engineering tradeoffs and promote investments in engineering excellence systematically.
- Engage in formal career guidance and coaching to foster team members' professional growth aligned with their interests and strengths.
- Customize team composition and size based on your expertise and leadership style.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience is required.
- At least eight years of software development experience in one or more languages such as Python, C, C++, Java, or JavaScript.
- A minimum of three years in technical leadership roles overseeing projects, including two years specifically in people management or team leadership.
- A minimum of five years designing and building full stack solutions, platforms, or infrastructure.
- Preferred qualifications include a Master’s or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
- Three years experience navigating organizational changes and three years designing, maintaining, and enhancing engineering systems are advantageous.
