About the Role
Google seeks a seasoned software engineer to significantly contribute to the safety of billions of Android users by combating abusive applications such as malware, impersonation, and content misuse. This position involves leading the design and deployment of large-scale engineering systems aimed at protecting the Android ecosystem. The work includes using supervised and unsupervised machine learning, generative AI, static and dynamic program analysis, and advanced threat mitigation techniques.
Primary Responsibilities
- Take ownership of critical components ensuring Android ecosystem safety.
- Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of scalable counter-abuse engineering systems.
- Develop and deploy machine learning and AI models, including large language models and generative AI, focused on user and developer protection.
- Provide technical guidance and leadership on impactful projects, managing priorities, deadlines, and mentoring a distributed engineering team.
- Adapt to fast-paced environments with multiple stakeholders, including adjusting to evolving regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent hands-on experience in software development.
- At least 8 years of software development experience.
- Minimum 5 years validating, launching software products, and 3 years with software design and architecture.
- 5 years expertise in at least one domain: speech/audio technologies, reinforcement learning, ML infrastructure, or another ML specialization.
- Hands-on experience with machine learning design and infrastructure including model deployment, evaluation, data processing, debugging and fine-tuning.
- Proven experience integrating generative AI or large language models into operational workflows.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctorate in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field.
- Proficient with data structures and algorithms, demonstrated over 8 years.
- Experience in security, privacy, safety, and counter-abuse domains.
- Expertise in AI/ML modeling for classification and automating systems.
