Position Summary

We are partnering with a client currently executing multiple offshore EPC projects in Qatar to hire a Port Captain on a contract basis through to 2031. The role is based in Doha and requires managing and supporting offshore marine and vessel activities across various projects involving multiple specialized vessels.

Key Responsibilities

• Full oversight and coordination of project vessels including pipelay, subsea construction, cable and umbilical installation, diving support, and other marine support vessels.
• Manage vessel mobilization, demobilization, port calls, project and operational readiness; organize inspections, audits, and timely resolution of issues before offshore operations.
• Serve as the main marine liaison between project teams, vessel owners, Masters, vessel management firms, and offshore teams to ensure compliance with project requirements.
• Coordinate marine operations such as vessel movements, port activities, logistics, transferring personnel and materials, bunkering, towing, and other marine services essential for project execution.
• Collaborate with engineering, construction, HSE, and QA/QC teams to assess vessel capabilities and resolve technical and safety concerns.
• Oversee inspection processes, client and marine surveys, readiness reviews and monitor the closing of non-conformities and corrective measures.
• Provide marine input during offshore execution planning, including scheduling, port setups, SIMOPS coordination, and managing interfaces among multiple vessels and activities.
• Continuously monitor vessel statuses—availability, operational conditions, mobilization progress, maintenance needs, and upcoming requirements—and escalate issues threatening safety, schedule, or execution.
• Engage in marine risk assessment and implement mitigation strategies to address vessel-related hazards collaboratively with stakeholders.
• Prepare detailed reports on vessel status, readiness, mobilization, and other marine operational metrics; participate in project meetings delivering updates on vessel-related matters.

Qualifications and Requirements

• At least 10 years’ experience in marine operations, offshore construction, vessel management, or associated fields; prior roles as Port Captain, Marine Superintendent, Master, Chief Officer, or similar are highly preferred.
• Proven capability in coordinating multiple offshore vessels, familiar with vessel mobilization, readiness, inspections, offshore construction support, and marine logistics.
• Experience with pipelay, subsea construction, cable installation, or diving support vessels is advantageous.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills, adept at managing various stakeholders and concurrent projects.
• Previous involvement in Middle East projects, specifically Qatar or QatarEnergy initiatives, is a plus.
• Fluency in English is mandatory for effective communication.

Additional Information

The role will require frequent travel to vessels, ports, shipyards, fabrication yards, and offshore sites. The starting date is as soon as possible with up to one month notice period acceptable.
