Job Overview

CADFEM Singapore seeks an Optical Engineer specializing in Zemax application to assist clients in employing optical design and simulation technologies. This position involves offering technical consulting, application assistance, product demos, training sessions, and pre-sales support primarily using Zemax OpticStudio and related optical engineering software.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver technical support and consulting for Zemax OpticStudio along with associated optical simulation products.
  • Interpret customer needs and convert engineering problems into suitable optical designs and simulation solutions.
  • Lead product demonstrations, technical talks, workshops, and client education sessions on Zemax.
  • Collaborate with the sales team for technical pre-sales work including requirements gathering, proposing solutions, demos, and technical discussions.
  • Develop demonstration materials, tutorials, technical content, and use cases showcasing Zemax technology.
  • Assist clients with optical system modeling involving imaging, illumination, stray light, tolerancing, optimization, and performance evaluation.
  • Troubleshoot simulation and modeling issues with clients and recommend optimal methodologies.
  • Partner with internal and regional CADFEM teams to exchange expertise and build tailored client solutions.
  • Contribute to seminars, webinars, technical events, and customer engagement efforts.
  • Stay informed on new advances in optical design, photonics, simulation tech, and Zemax software.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Optical Engineering, Optics & Photonics, Physics, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related areas.
  • Open to fresh graduates or candidates with up to one year of relevant experience in optical design, simulation, photonics, or application engineering.
  • Preferred: familiarity with Zemax OpticStudio.
  • Experience in customer-facing roles such as technical support, application engineering, consulting, or pre-sales is advantageous.

Technical Competencies

  • Solid grasp of geometrical optics, physical optics, optical system principles, and optical engineering fundamentals.
  • Knowledge in optical system design and optimization, lens design, illumination and imaging systems, stray light and tolerance analysis, MTF and performance evaluation, and non-sequential optical modeling.
  • Experience with other optical software tools like CODE V, LightTools, ASAP, TracePro, or programming languages such as MATLAB or Python is beneficial.
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
