Job description
Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Site Reliability Engineer with foundational software engineering expertise to lead the modernization of our infrastructure and operational processes. This key position involves designing and implementing automation to manage customer environments and scale operations beyond manual methods. You will play a crucial role in migrating from legacy systems to advanced Infrastructure as Code methodologies, employing software engineering approaches to create resilient, automated systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and write automation software primarily using Python to handle provisioning, deployment, and configuration of infrastructure.
- Promote and develop Terraform best practices including state management, modularity, and version control techniques.
- Utilize configuration management tools such as Ansible or Saltstack to ensure environment consistency and repeatability.
- Build and improve CI/CD pipelines automating both infrastructure and application deployments to reduce manual interventions.
- Enhance monitoring, logging, and alerting frameworks to proactively boost system reliability and uptime.
- Engage in a "follow the sun" on-call rotation focusing on effective incident response, blameless postmortems, and continuous process enhancements.
- Advocate for Site Reliability Engineering principles, automation, and coding standards within the team and organization-wide.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum 3 years managing live production environments on AWS and/or GCP cloud platforms.
- Strong skills in Python programming with ability to produce clean, testable, and maintainable code targeting infrastructure challenges.
- Hands-on experience with Terraform including sophisticated management of state files and modular architectural design.
- Solid understanding of Linux internals, proficient command over Bash scripting and CLI operations.
- Competency in configuration tools like Ansible and/or Saltstack.
- Advanced knowledge of Git workflows, including branching models and best code review practices.
Preferred Additional Expertise
- History of transforming manual or legacy operations to automated infrastructure as code solutions.
- Experience with container technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes and orchestration methods.
- Development and operation of CI/CD pipelines focused on infrastructure automation.
- Familiarity with monitoring and visualization tools such as Zabbix, Prometheus, and Grafana.
- Experience working with search and analytics engines like Opensearch or Elasticsearch.
