Job description

Position Overview

The Hotel Room Housekeeper is responsible for cleaning, restocking, and maintaining hotel guest rooms according to assigned duties and hotel standards.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Obtain assigned room lists from management and prioritize rooms requiring early service.
  • Check and replenish cleaning cart supplies as needed.
  • Maintain cleaning equipment in good condition.
  • Announce presence before entering rooms and return later if occupied.
  • Remove used linens, towels, and bed coverings; replace with fresh items.
  • Make beds neatly and stock towels and washcloths consistent with hotel policies.
  • Clean and sanitize bathrooms and kitchen/kitchenette areas as per protocols.
  • Wipe down all surfaces and clean mirrors in guest rooms.
  • Vacuum floors and dispose of trash properly.
  • Restock complimentary coffee, snacks, and toiletries following the hotel checklist.
  • Conduct final room inspections to ensure hotel standards are met.
  • Notify supervisors when rooms become available; report any suspicious occurrences to security.
  • Manage soiled linens by laundering, folding, and organizing them as needed.
  • Report maintenance or repair needs promptly to the maintenance department.
  • Transport lost items to designated lost and found if guests have departed.
  • Perform other job-related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Strong attention to detail and thoroughness in completing tasks.
  • Maintain discretion and respect guest privacy at all times.
  • Consistently perform work with high quality and reliability.
  • Communicate pleasantly and professionally with guests.
  • Basic literacy sufficient to read product labels and communicate job-related information.
  • Basic proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking) preferred.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods and perform tasks involving frequent pulling, pushing, and bending.
  • Able to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
  • Willingness to work on a rotating seven-day schedule, including some afternoon shifts.
  • Potential exposure to hazards such as slips, trips, falls, dirt, humidity, temperature extremes, contact with water and harsh cleaning chemicals, and frequent hand washing.
