Role Overview

We are looking for experienced Grader Operators to join our Roading team, playing a key role in preparing and building pavement in various projects, including subdivisions and public sector roads. The ideal candidate will be capable of leading teams, handling multiple machines, and willing to actively participate in labor tasks, all while maintaining safety and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Operating grader machinery to cut to design, spread, and level aggregates accurately according to required grades and cross falls.
  • Final trimming pavement layers within designated tolerances.
  • Interpreting construction plans effectively for accurate execution.
  • Leading teams to meet targets and deadlines, ensuring quality and safety standards.
  • Supporting road maintenance and pavement aftercare activities.
  • Adhering to New Zealand road construction specifications and standards.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum three years of relevant experience in the civil works or a similar industry.
  • Proven leadership abilities working with teams under time constraints.
  • Advanced understanding of pavement construction methods and best practices.
  • Strong knowledge of compaction processes.
  • Valid WTR endorsement and full Class 2 or higher driver’s license.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans.
  • Familiarity with NZ road construction standards and ongoing maintenance requirements.
  • Flexible outlook with a dedicated work ethic and a priority on workplace safety.
  • Must be a New Zealand Citizen, Resident, or possess a current Open NZ Work Visa.

Preferred But Not Required

  • Experience operating trucks or other heavy machinery.
  • Background in subdivision projects.
  • Experience using GPS equipment.
  • Certification in Nuclear Density Meter (NDM) testing.
