Job Overview
The State of Tennessee is seeking a Building Maintenance Worker 1 to perform both unskilled and skilled routine maintenance tasks under immediate supervision at the Dyersburg Welcome Center, part of the Department of Tourist Development. This full-time, on-site role involves assisting with a diverse range of building upkeep, including carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, masonry, and general mechanical repairs. The position requires the ability to perform minor HVAC repairs and maintenance tasks to keep building systems operating smoothly.
Responsibilities
- Detect and address maintenance problems, either resolving them directly or reporting to appropriate personnel.
- Use technical diagrams, drawings, and manuals to guide repair activities.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment such as drills, skill saws, grinders, plungers, and sewer rodders.
- Disassemble fixtures including electrical and plumbing components to replace malfunctioning parts.
- Carry out basic HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, electrical repairs, painting, decorating, landscaping, and janitorial duties.
- Follow preventative maintenance schedules to ensure optimal operation of equipment and maintenance of the building's physical condition.
- Complete work order forms documenting repairs and materials used, along with time tracking reports.
- Engage with external vendors and customers to deliver basic customer service and direct inquiries appropriately.
- May operate state vehicles including pick-up trucks, golf carts, and watercraft as required.
Qualifications
- Minimum of one year full-time experience in labor and trade work that includes routine building maintenance.
- Valid driver's license is mandatory.
