Job description

Team Overview

The Applied AI Engineering team focuses on aiding developers and enterprises in effectively and safely implementing OpenAI technologies into production environments. They serve as trusted technical consultants collaborating closely with customer teams to identify impactful use cases, design feasible architectures, and support the progression from prototype to stable deployment.

Role Context

Cybersecurity is a critical area where AI applications can provide substantial benefits. Security personnel face increasing demands to analyze data from code bases, logs, infrastructure, alerts, tickets, and vulnerabilities swiftly and accurately. As advanced AI models grow in capability, organizations require expert guidance to evaluate, validate, and safely integrate AI systems within security-critical workflows.

Position Summary

The candidate will assume the role of Applied AI Engineer specialized in Cybersecurity, partnering with customers to apply OpenAI’s models, APIs, Codex, and agent workflows to real-life security challenges. They will engage with CISOs, security leadership, SOC teams, security engineers, and operational practitioners to pinpoint opportunities where AI can enhance measurable security outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary technical advisor embedded with strategic clients, bridging communication between executives and hands-on technical staff to implement AI-driven cybersecurity solutions.
  • Drive discovery and assessments across domains such as application security, DevSecOps, vulnerability management, SOC and incident response, detection engineering, red teaming, cloud security, identity management, and GRC automation.
  • Develop and present demos, prototypes, workshops, proofs of concept, and reference designs incorporating OpenAI APIs, Codex, AI agents, scripting, command-line tools, GitHub workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and integration with logs, tickets, scanners, and common security platforms.
  • Define pilot projects with concise success metrics, necessary data inputs, integration workflows, evaluation approaches, security requirements, safety protocols, and human oversight checkpoints.
  • Guide customers on secure implementation methodologies including tool usage, structured data outputs, data retrieval, sandboxing, guardrails, telemetry, auditing, and approval mechanisms.
  • Translate high-level CISO objectives into granular technical solutions understandable by both leadership and practitioners, clarifying value propositions, associated risks, and actionable steps.
  • Create reusable resources such as demo scripts, operational playbooks, FAQs, objection handling strategies, qualification criteria, assessment tools, and competitive analysis materials.
  • Gather, analyze, and communicate critical feedback to internal teams including Product, Engineering, Research, Security, and Go-to-Market based on repeated client inputs, obstacles, market gaps, and emerging cybersecurity workflows.

Desired Qualifications

  • At least five years of technical consulting, solutions engineering, security architecture, cyber advisory, deployment, or professional service experience in customer-facing roles.
  • Deep expertise in one or more cybersecurity fields such as application security, cloud security, identity and access management, vulnerability handling, secure software development lifecycle, incident response, detection engineering, threat intelligence, red teaming, or security architecture.
  • Capability to communicate effectively with high-level executives (CISOs, CTOs) and technical security specialists.
  • Practical experience designing and implementing prototypes or production systems using APIs, Python or JavaScript, AI agents, scripting, CLI tools, GitHub workflows, CI/CD environments, log and ticket systems, scanners, or other prevalent security tools.
  • Knowledge of architecting AI workflows incorporating retrieval mechanisms, structured outputs, tool integration, evaluation processes, safety guardrails, telemetry, sandbox environments, and human-in-the-loop approval.
  • Adeptness at defining pilot projects from ambiguous problem statements, including establishing success criteria, data needs, integration points, evaluation frameworks, deployment assumptions, and decision gates.
  • Strong evidence-based security judgment, with emphasis on validating findings, distinguishing true issues from noise, documenting assumptions, and providing balanced assessments regarding AI and security claims.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, determine when to remain hands-on versus creating scalable solutions, and independently oversee problem resolution end-to-end.
  • A cooperative, humble mindset with a commitment to supporting colleagues and ensuring successful outcomes for the team and clients.
