Job description

About Mercury

Mercury is a leading European company specializing in advanced construction solutions. We manage complex engineering and construction projects for major global corporations, delivering cutting-edge technologies that connect communities and businesses worldwide. Our innovative and determined workforce enables us to consistently fulfill client visions with precision.

Our expertise spans various sectors including Enterprise Data Centres, Advanced Technology & Life Sciences, Hyperscale Data Centres, and Fire Protection. We prioritize empowering our employees by providing challenging development opportunities within supportive teams, enabling them to reach their full potential.

Role Overview

The position involves delivering comprehensive, practical welding and pipefitting training for Mercury apprentices ahead of their block release periods to college. Our goal is to ensure apprentices are technically equipped, safety-aware, and confident before their off-the-job training begins. Additionally, the role supports upskilling and streamlining welding and pipefitting competencies among the existing workforce, aligning with project standards and quality requirements. Training will primarily take place in Ireland with occasional European assignments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on welding training to apprentices before their college release phases.
  • Reinforce fundamental welding theory concepts to support apprentices’ college success, covering welding methods, materials, joint preparation, safety, and symbols.
  • Prepare apprentices for practical college assessments through mock exams and skill reinforcement.
  • Ensure apprentices adhere to safe work practices, proper tool handling, and workshop discipline.
  • Deliver practical and theoretical pipefitting training to apprentices as needed.
  • Conduct trade tests (both practical and theoretical) for pipefitters before project placement and during active work.

Essential Requirements

  • Experienced, time-served welder and/or pipefitter with substantial industrial background.
  • Valid welding certification and extensive hands-on expertise in welding techniques relevant to Mercury’s activities, including MMA, TIG, and MIG processes.
  • Practical pipefitting and mechanical installation experience within industrial environments.
  • Excellent coaching, training, and communication skills for interacting with apprentices and skilled tradespeople.
  • Willingness and ability to travel across Ireland and occasionally within Europe.
  • Comprehensive technical knowledge of Semiconductor and Pharmaceutical systems, installation techniques, tools, and equipment.
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with operatives and project teams.
  • Possession of a clean driving license to enable travel to various training sites.
  • Commitment to safety, quality standards, and professional work ethics.
  • Proficient with MS Office applications and general computer literacy.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Orbital Welding and High Purity Systems.
  • Adaptability to various training methodologies to support evolving company demands.
  • Strong organizational capabilities.
