Job description
Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled Java Developer experienced in backend software development within financial trading environments to join a growing professional services firm. The successful candidate will contribute significantly to modernizing a complex legacy trading system originally implemented in C++ into a contemporary Java-based solution. This role requires close collaboration with Front Office trading teams as well as talented software engineers and product teams, delivering robust, secure, low-latency real-time trading systems leveraging Java and AI tools such as Claude.
Location & Work Hours
This full-time role is based onsite in the central Newcastle offices, working Monday through Friday.
Candidate Profile
- Strong experience in backend, multithreaded Java development.
- Thorough understanding of financial markets and demonstrated experience working on trading systems.
- Good grasp of real-time system architecture and low-latency application development.
- Familiarity and comfort with AI tools such as Claude.
- Excellent collaboration skills combined with pragmatic client-facing communication abilities.
- Highly inquisitive with well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
- Knowledge of C++ is a plus but not mandatory.
- Minimum academic requirement: 2.1 BSc in Computer Science or a related technical discipline from a top-tier or Russell Group university, with A grades at A-level.
