Team and Role Overview

The Data Team at Quora plays a vital role by guiding decisions using data and influencing strategic directions across the company. Data scientists collaborate with product managers, designers, engineers, and others to create metrics, design experiments, build visual tools, and investigate complex product and user behavior challenges. Projects include user growth modeling, improving personalized feeds, marketplace optimization, engagement analysis, and assessing monetization strategies.

Responsibilities

• Manage well-defined, impactful challenges in product and business areas from question framing to solution execution with cross-team collaboration.
• Develop and assess randomized controlled experiments to evaluate effects of changes.
• Inspect product data to identify reasons behind shifts in metrics.
• Work alongside stakeholders to leverage data in product decision-making.
• Enhance team capabilities by contributing to data tools, methods, and frameworks.

Required Qualifications

• Participate in meetings and communications during Quora’s coordination hours (Monday to Friday, 9am-3pm Pacific Time).
• At least two years in analytical or quantitative roles, including one year in a Data Scientist or equivalent position.
• Proven ability to conduct independent data analyses that guide business or product decisions.
• Strong grasp of statistical methods such as regression, hypothesis testing, and causal inference with practical application.
• Effective communicator capable of translating business questions into analysis and presenting findings clearly.
• Proficiency with procedural programming languages like Python or R for data handling and modelling, including working within production environments.
• Sound judgment balancing quantitative rigor with product insight and common sense.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience analyzing experiments and recommender systems via offline and online testing.
• Familiarity with large-scale datasets and distributed computing frameworks like Presto or Trino.
• Active user of Quora demonstrating curiosity about the platform.
