Backend Engineer – Java and Alibaba Cloud

Role Overview

We are looking for a seasoned Backend Engineer specialized in Java and Alibaba Cloud to join our team in Singapore. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable backend systems and microservices with a strong focus on performance, reliability, and security.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and sustain backend services and microservices using Java and Spring Boot frameworks.
• Construct secure, scalable RESTful APIs and related backend services ensuring high performance.
• Implement and support microservices architecture including components such as service discovery, API gateways, messaging systems, and distributed transaction management.
• Deploy and manage backend solutions leveraging a variety of Alibaba Cloud services.
• Integrate databases efficiently and optimize both database and application performance.
• Use containerization and orchestration technologies including Docker and Kubernetes for application packaging and management.
• Maintain and upgrade CI/CD pipelines, monitor code quality, perform testing, and manage application deployments.
• Diagnose and resolve production incidents to enhance system stability and scalability.
• Collaborate effectively with cross-departmental teams to deliver robust technical solutions.

Skills & Requirements

• Extensive Java expertise (versions 8, 11, 17) with deep understanding of core concepts such as collections, concurrency, exception handling, JVM tuning, and design patterns.
• Practical experience using Spring ecosystem technologies including Spring Boot, MVC, Data JPA, Security, Cloud, and Hibernate/JPA.
• Strong grasp of microservices architecture, including API gateways, service discovery, circuit breakers, distributed transactions, and messaging middleware like Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Proficiency working with Alibaba Cloud platform components such as ECS, ACK, OSS, RDS, SLB, Cloud Monitor, Function Compute, RAM, Container Registry, and VPC.
• Hands-on knowledge of container technologies Docker, Kubernetes, with automation using Jenkins or GitLab CI, build tools Maven or Gradle, version control Git, and code quality tools like SonarQube.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases including MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving capabilities, along with excellent debugging and communication skills.
