Role Overview

As a Staff Software Developer in the CNN tvOS team, you will act as a technical leader responsible for guiding the development team, working independently on complex challenges, and shaping the technical vision alongside Principal Engineers and Architects. Your duties include defining technology strategies, mentoring junior developers, and ensuring the successful execution and deployment of CNN’s mobile applications across iOS and tvOS platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and architect intuitive, elegant mobile applications for connected TV and iOS platforms that are user-friendly and engaging.
• Develop and maintain software tools and workflows that enhance the core production pipeline.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, Delivery, Editorial, and Engineering teams to deliver exceptional digital consumer experiences.
• Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and debug to maintain system stability.
• Support ongoing maintenance of CNN’s digital ecosystem and production systems.
• Mentor and coach less-experienced developers, fostering team growth.
• Ensure software development adheres to best practices and internal standards including architecture, security, corporate governance, coding quality, monitoring, testing, and service enablement.

Qualifications and Experience Required

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
• Extensive experience (minimum 10 years) in professional software development environments.
• Strong mastery of programming fundamentals including data structures and algorithms.
• Proven capability in developing innovative applications and maintaining existing codebases.
• Demonstrated full-stack mobile development skills with native client and SDK expertise, build automation, CI/CD pipelines, and API integration, specifically using Swift and SwiftUI.
• Deep knowledge of software development methodologies, architecture, and best practices, including designing scalable, secure, and cost-efficient cloud solutions on AWS; AWS Professional Certification is a plus.
• Hands-on experience with mobile DevOps CI/CD tooling and automation for code signing and test processes; familiarity with Jenkins, Git, Maven/Gradle, Swift Package Manager, CocoaPods, Terraform, and Appium is preferred.
• Working knowledge of various databases such as SQL, NoSQL, and Graph databases.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to work effectively across technical and business teams.
• Experienced in building flexible software architectures that adapt to evolving business requirements.
• General comprehension of cloud platforms like AWS, OpenStack, and OpenShift.

Compensation and Benefits

The role offers a salary range from $138,000 to $220,800 per year. In addition to base pay, employees may receive bonuses, short and long term incentives, and special program awards.
