Java Backend Developer

Role Overview

This position is for a Backend Developer based in Bangalore working under a hybrid work mode on a contract basis. The incumbent will be responsible for managing and resolving complex technical challenges related to backend and distributed systems, ensuring stability and performance within defined service agreements.

Key Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and debug backend applications and distributed systems across service, application, and infrastructure layers.
• Implement code changes including bug fixes, enhancements, and operational improvements.
• Develop automation, tooling, and scripts to reduce manual tasks and improve operational efficiency.
• Support microservices architecture and service-to-service communications.
• Perform root cause analyses and apply preventive measures to increase system stability in partnership with application owners.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Infrastructure, and Product teams to swiftly resolve issues.
• Create and maintain comprehensive documentation like runbooks and debugging guides.
• Participate in on-call rotations to support critical business applications.
• Contribute to incident management, on-call operations, and automation tool improvements to reduce operational overhead.

Required Skills and Experience

• Strong grasp of Java fundamentals including debugging and understanding service workflows.
• Experience with Linux environments and troubleshooting in production systems.
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python and Bash.
• Basic software development capabilities including reading and writing basic code.
• Experience with relational databases like MySQL and familiarity with NoSQL databases such as Couchbase.
• Hands-on experience supporting and developing microservices and RESTful APIs.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes.
• Comfortable working in Agile or iterative development environments.
• Ability to write test cases and build automation frameworks for regression testing.
• Previous experience building internal tools or automation frameworks is a plus.
• Aptitude for quickly understanding large and complex codebases.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.

Educational and Experience Requirements

A bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience, is required. Candidates should have over 5 years of experience in software development or technical support roles, particularly with exposure to production system support.
