Role Overview

The Human Resources Director will provide strategic and operational leadership across HR and recruitment to support growth within the Greater Toronto Area and beyond. This senior position requires direct engagement in talent management, labour relations, performance oversight, and daily human resource operations, collaborating with senior and operational managers to strengthen workforce effectiveness and foster a culture of accountability and respect.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with overall business goals.
• Lead and mentor HR and recruitment staff, defining clear roles, objectives, and quality standards.
• Manage all phases of recruitment, from sourcing to onboarding, while supporting operations with workforce planning.
• Handle employee relations including addressing concerns, complaints, disciplinary processes, union negotiations, and grievance resolution.
• Advise management on attendance, performance issues, accommodations, leaves, disciplinary actions, and terminations to ensure fairness and compliance.
• Drive employee development initiatives, performance management, engagement programs, and succession planning.
• Maintain compliance with Ontario employment laws, collective agreements, and company policies through current HR practices and confidential record keeping.
• Oversee payroll operations ensuring correctness and adherence to contractual terms, resolving discrepancies with finance teams.
• Enhance HR systems and recruitment technologies to improve data accuracy, workflows, and support organizational growth initiatives.
• Track and report on HR metrics such as recruitment success, turnover rates, retention, and absenteeism; develop budgetary plans for HR functions.

Qualifications

• Significant HR leadership experience within the private security or building services sectors supporting large unionized workforces.
• Comprehensive knowledge of high-volume recruitment, multi-site management, and 24/7 operational staffing challenges.
• Proven ability to lead HR teams through strategic projects and routine operational responsibilities.
• Expertise in labour relations including collective bargaining, grievance handling, and disciplinary procedures.
• Strong familiarity with Ontario employment standards, human rights regulations, workplace health and safety, and accessibility rules.
• Experience managing payroll processes and maintaining secure confidential HR records utilizing HRIS and recruitment software.
• Exceptional communication, negotiation, investigative, and conflict resolution capabilities, along with discretion in handling sensitive issues.
• Advanced organizational, analytical, budgeting, and project management skills with a history of driving process improvements and change management.

Compensation

The annual salary range for this role is $80,000 to $150,000.
