Financial Controller

Position Overview

The Financial Controller will supervise all financial operations of the hotel, ensuring that financial reports are accurate and delivered on time. This role also ensures internal financial controls are robust, manages finances responsibly, and ensures all activities conform to company policies and legal standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily functions of the Finance & Accounting Department, including Accounts Payable, Receivable, General Ledger, Payroll, Treasury, and Cost Control.
• Ensure month-end and year-end financial closings occur promptly and accurately.
• Monitor the hotel's overall financial status while managing financial resources effectively.
• Maintain strong financial procedures and internal controls across all finance operations.
• Manage financial reconciliation and resolve discrepancies swiftly.
• Collaborate with operational teams to enforce financial controls.
• Lead preparation and coordination of annual budgets, forecasts, and business plans following USALI guidelines and company policies.
• Analyze variances between actual financial results and budgets, providing explanations and recommendations to management.
• Assist department heads with establishing and tracking their budgets.
• Monitor revenue and spending trends to identify financial risks and growth opportunities.
• Produce timely, accurate monthly and annual financial statements and management reports, ensuring correct classification in line with USALI standards.
• Analyze financial performance, including profitability and departmental results, and offer insights to aid decision-making.
• Manage cash flow and working capital, monitor banking and treasury activities, maintain relationships with financial institutions, and perform accurate bank reconciliations.
• Identify and implement cost control measures to improve profitability without reducing service quality.
• Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with financial policies, statutory requirements, and approval processes.
• Coordinate internal and external audits, maintain financial records, liaise with auditors, and ensure corrective actions are carried out post-audit.
• Provide financial insights and recommendations to senior management and participate in management meetings.
• Lead and develop the Finance team, fostering communication, teamwork, and accountability.
• Preserve strict confidentiality of hotel and employee financial information and maintain high professional standards.
• Adhere to all company policies and participate in relevant meetings, training, and activities.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or closely related field.
• Preferably holds a professional certification such as ACCA, CPA, or CMA.
• At least 10 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting.
• Minimum 5 years professional experience working in Qatar.
• At least 5 years of experience within a 5-star luxury hotel finance environment.
• Strong expertise in hotel finance operations, with extensive knowledge and practical use of USALI.
• Proven experience in financial reporting, budget creation, forecasting, cash flow management, department profitability, cost control, payroll, treasury, and month-end closing procedures.
• Experience engaging with external auditors, banks, and senior management.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and hotel financial management systems.
• Fluency in both written and spoken Arabic and English.
