About The Team
The Stripe Infrastructure team is responsible for ensuring the reliability, scalability, performance, and cost-effectiveness of Stripe’s core systems, while fostering a productive and positive engineering culture. Within Core Infrastructure, we focus on tier-0 systems including Compute, Networking, DocumentDB, Distributed Caching, and High Assurance Engineering. Our work underpins Stripe’s products and services to operate efficiently at scale, emphasizing availability, efficiency, and dependability.
Role Overview
As an Engineering Manager for the Core Performance team located in Sydney, you will lead a group dedicated to enhancing efficiency and reducing latency across Stripe’s platform.
Responsibilities
- Lead and expand a Sydney-based engineering team by recruiting, coaching, mentoring, and developing engineers at varied levels.
- Collaborate with multiple engineering teams across Stripe to devise and deploy infrastructure solutions that improve scalability, reliability, and efficiency.
- Set the team’s vision, establish goals, prioritize initiatives, and ensure delivery of exceptional results.
- Foster a culture of engineering excellence, innovation, and continuous growth.
- Partner with staff engineers and technical leaders to influence architecture and guide technical strategy, translating these into actionable plans for the team.
- Coordinate effectively with colleagues distributed across geographies to maintain alignment and visibility.
Candidate Profile
Minimum Qualifications:
- Over 10 years of software engineering experience including a minimum of 5 years in engineering leadership roles, with proven success managing and growing inclusive and distributed engineering teams.
- Extensive expertise in managing the performance, efficiency, and capacity planning of large-scale infrastructure platforms capable of handling millions of requests per second.
- Broad hands-on experience with cloud services (especially AWS), core infrastructure technologies such as Compute, Linux, and Storage, and programming languages like Go, Ruby, and Java.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical strategy, architecture, and roadmap formation in dynamic, fast-evolving contexts.
- Strong analytical and communication skills, adept at leveraging data-driven insights to influence cross-functional stakeholders across all organizational levels.
In-Office Expectations
Employees assigned to Stripe offices are generally expected to spend at least 50% of their working time onsite or interacting directly with users each month. This requirement may vary by role, team, and geographic location. Some teams and delivery centers require full-time office presence. These policies aim to balance in-person collaboration with flexible work arrangements.
Compensation and Benefits
The target salary range for this role based in Sydney is A$216,000 to A$324,000 annually. Salary details may vary for other locations and depend on experience, qualifications, and position level. Additional compensation components can include equity, bonuses, retirement plans, health benefits, and wellness stipends.
