Role Summary

The Director of Cloud Engineering is tasked with overseeing the cloud platform's strategy, operations, security, governance, and financial management. This role collaborates closely with Engineering, Product, UX, Security, IT, Compliance, Finance, and Go-to-Market teams to ensure a cloud platform that fosters fast product innovation while maintaining top reliability, security, compliance, and cost-effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement a cloud platform strategy aligned with Magnet's SaaS offerings and long-term business goals.
• Drive operational excellence initiatives including service reliability, observability, incident and disaster recovery management, and governance of the platform.
• Collaborate with engineering leaders to provide scalable, highly available cloud services.
• Lead cross-functional projects aimed at enhancing platform consistency, maturity, and engineering productivity across products.
• Enforce platform architecture standards and engage in technical governance and reviews.
• Manage cloud platform preparedness for security and regulatory compliance such as FedRAMP.
• Work alongside Security and Compliance teams to establish secure default platforms, policies, and controls.
• Guide vulnerability management and platform-wide security efforts.
• Formulate strategies addressing new regulatory and sovereign cloud requirements to support international customers.
• Oversee cloud financial operations including cost governance, budgeting, forecasting, and optimization.
• Implement financial management frameworks promoting transparency and accountability in cloud spending.
• Partner with Finance and Engineering to align technology expenses with corporate objectives.
• Introduce automation tools for enhanced cost forecasting and visibility.
• Balance innovation, performance, and cost in platform financial management.
• Lead adoption and governance of AI technologies and operational practices within Engineering and Shared Services.
• Develop AI infrastructure strategies to monitor, manage, and optimize related spending.
• Identify AI-driven opportunities to boost productivity and decision-making.
• Manage vendor relationships for cloud providers, technology platforms, and engineering tools, including contract negotiations.
• Build and lead skilled cloud and platform engineering teams with a focus on accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Enhance developer experience by minimizing barriers and enabling self-service capabilities.

Required Experience & Skills

• Over a decade in software engineering, cloud infrastructure, or platform engineering.
• Minimum of five years managing engineering managers or technical teams.
• Extensive knowledge of public cloud platforms, particularly AWS.
• Experience with private cloud infrastructure development and operation of large-scale SaaS environments.
• Strong skills in cloud security, compliance, and governance practices.
• Proven expertise in financial management related to cloud budgeting and cost control.
• Track record managing cross-functional strategic initiatives.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and executive presentation abilities.
• Experience in vendor evaluation, selection, and strategic partnership management.

Preferred Additional Qualifications

• Familiarity with FedRAMP, SOC 2, ISO 27001, or equivalent compliance protocols.
• Experience establishing platform engineering or developer experience organizations.
• Knowledge of AI and machine learning infrastructure governance and operational procedures.
• Leadership experience in identity and access management.
• Understanding of observability, cloud operations, and reliability engineering.
• Background in scaling SaaS companies in high-growth scenarios.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $200,000 to $250,000 CAD annually, with variations based on location and candidate-specific factors such as skills and experience.
