Job description

Position Overview

The Cashier role at Ujjivan Small Finance Bank involves executing all cash-related operations for the branch strictly in accordance with internal policies and banking regulations. The individual will be responsible for maintaining accurate records in relevant registers and systems, with key duties including end-of-day reconciliations.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Ensure the branch operates smoothly by timely and accurate processing of cash transactions and account maintenance.
  • Manage cash handling activities including receipt and processing of cheques, drafts, pay orders, dividend warrants, and other instruments within authorized limits, providing customer acknowledgments through counterfoils.
  • Disburse cash for withdrawal requests and collect deposits against challans effectively.
  • Collect EMI repayments and accurately update records in the system.
  • Maintain various registers including inward/outward registers, petty cash, and assets registers, and coordinate with the Regional Head Office for requisitions.
  • Reconcile cash daily, ensuring cash counts align with recorded transactions and vouchers; compile and submit the 'End of Day' branch report.
  • Jointly manage branch vault operations and cash security alongside the operations officer.
  • Engage with customers during cash disbursement and deposit interactions; identify opportunities for cross-selling and familiarize customers with existing and new banking products and services.
  • Deliver excellent customer service by addressing queries politely and efficiently, escalating concerns when necessary.
  • Inform customers regarding repayment schedules and provide contact information for clarifications.
  • Promote the use of alternative channels for deposits, withdrawals, and inquiries to enhance service delivery.
  • Count and verify cash at the start and end of the day before securing it in the vault.
  • Safeguard the branch's cash and valuables jointly with the Assistant Branch Manager, ensuring smooth cash operations.
  • Comply with stipulated turnaround times (TAT) for transaction processing and adhere to regulatory and bank policies.
  • Validate customer authenticity for cash withdrawals and ensure accuracy of cash deposit slips following audit standards.
  • Update bank passbooks in case of any transactions and prepare cash bundles for deposits with appropriate documentation.
  • Stay updated on Ujjivan's products, services, and relevant regulations while completing mandatory certifications and training programs within specified timelines.
  • Participate in goal-setting, mid-year reviews, and performance appraisal processes punctually.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in any discipline, preferably in Finance or Commerce.
  • Minimum 1 to 2 years of experience handling large volumes of cash transactions.
  • Experience with financial modules/ERP systems and consolidating accounting data is essential.

Skills & Competencies

  • Expertise in cash handling and accounting principles.
  • Ability to detect counterfeit currency notes.
  • Strong numerical aptitude and meticulousness in record keeping.
  • Proficient computer skills; relevant software training will be provided on the job.
  • Capacity to multitask and maintain systematic workflows.
  • Positive interpersonal communication and customer service orientation.
  • Effective listening and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to execute tasks efficiently while managing customer relationships and maintaining a customer-focused approach.

Key Interactions

  • Internal: Coordination with regional operations teams, FCU officers, and service quality executives.
  • External: Engagement with neighboring banks, cash management agencies, and BC agents.

Additional Information

Reports directly to the Branch Operation Officer and operates under the branch banking department. This position is based onsite at branch locations and requires full-time commitment.
