About the Role
Join Massey University as an Academic Advisor based at the Manawatū campus, dedicating your skills to support students from their initial inquiries through to graduation. This role centers on helping students make informed academic decisions by blending your subject expertise, especially in Business and Humanities, with critical analysis and a dedication to student success.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate directly with students to develop customized academic plans tailored to meet qualification standards.
- Provide support to prospective and enrolled students facing complex academic decisions and planning challenges.
- Manage a caseload of students, offering proactive and strength-based advising to promote student retention and success.
- Interpret academic policies and regulations, applying them effectively to individual student situations.
- Deliver advising through individual consultations, group sessions, and presentations.
- Work closely with academic and administrative personnel to ensure an integrated and supportive student experience.

- Academic pathways are clearly defined and achievable, even when complex.

Candidate Profile and Qualifications
- Possess a bachelor's degree, with postgraduate qualifications considered an advantage.
- Have a minimum of three years' experience in advisory, coaching, or guidance roles.
- Demonstrate the ability to interpret policies and complex information, delivering client-focused advice.
- Exhibit strong communication and interpersonal skills to build trust and respond to diverse student needs.
- Experience in supporting students from varied backgrounds and familiarity with student journey challenges.
- Comfortable utilizing digital tools such as CRM systems and Microsoft 365 to manage caseloads and information.
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and ability to balance competing priorities.
Additional valued qualities include understanding Te Tiriti o Waitangi, cultural competency working with Māori and diverse groups, and employing a strengths-based empathetic approach.
