Role overviewMicrosoft is hiring a Data Center Technician to support the day-to-day operation of its cloud infrastructure in Pune. In this role, you will build practical knowledge of established procedures for preparing, installing, diagnosing, troubleshooting, replacing, and decommissioning equipment, working with support from senior team members. The position is a strong fit for someone looking to deepen technical capability, learn data center safety and security practices, and grow within a large global cloud environment.As part of Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I), you will contribute to the infrastructure that supports services such as Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and Microsoft Azure. The team emphasizes growth, learning, and inclusion, and provides development opportunities such as rotation programs, diversity and inclusion initiatives, and professional certification support.Microsoft operates a worldwide data center network spanning more than 200 facilities across 32 countries, supporting millions of servers and serving more than 1 billion customers and 20 million businesses in over 90 countries. The organization also places strong focus on sustainability, operational optimization, collaboration, accountability, and a growth mindset.ResponsibilitiesSupport issue resolution by logging escalations, asking clarifying questions, and taking guidance from experienced technicians to close tasks in a timely manner.Take part in daily safety check-ins and complete all role-based training, including safety modules covering equipment handling, lifting practices, electrical risks, and ladder or rolling stair usage.Work through assigned tickets efficiently while aligning output with KPIs and SLAs, with assistance from other team members when needed.Follow security and data handling procedures, complete required security training, and operate under guidance on compliance-related tasks.Maintain a customer-focused approach by understanding how completed work affects service quality and end users.Contribute to a cooperative team culture by sharing updates, participating in team discussions, asking questions, and staying informed about ongoing work.Take ownership of the quality, completeness, and care of data center facilities and services.Represent Microsoft’s culture and values in everyday work.RequirementsCompletion of high school/secondary school, GED, an apprenticeship or vocational qualification, or equivalent practical experience.Basic understanding of computer hardware and components.Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening standards.Successful completion of the Microsoft Cloud background check at hire or transfer and again every two years.Preferred: at least 1 year of experience supporting IT equipment or similar technology.Preferred: relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+, Server+, Network+, or Basic Structured Cabling (BSC).Additional informationThis role must remain open for at least 5 days, and applications are reviewed continuously until the position is filled.Microsoft is an equal opportunity employer.
