CPU Design Verification Engineer

Role Overview

QT Technologies Ireland Limited is seeking a Staff-level CPU Verification Engineer in Cork to help validate CPU and SoC micro-architectures and ensure the design is ready for launch. In this role, you will partner closely with chip architects and contribute to the verification of a selected area of the CPU design.

What You’ll Do

• Collaborate with CPU and SoC architects to understand architectural intent and system-level requirements.
• Create detailed test and coverage strategies based on the architecture and micro-architecture.
• Build scalable and portable verification methodologies that work across environments.
• Develop verification environments, including stimulus, checkers, assertions, trackers, and coverage components.
• Write verification plans and testbenches for the functional area you own.
• Run verification activities such as design bring-up, DV environment bring-up, regression enablement, feature validation, and failure debugging.
• Monitor and communicate DV status using metrics such as bug counts and coverage progress.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of microprocessor verification and architecture, including areas such as cache coherence, memory ordering and consistency, prefetching, branch prediction, register renaming, speculative execution, and address translation or memory management.

You should also understand random instruction sequencing and how to verify designs at both block/unit level and subsystem/chip level to prove correctness. Experience leading a small verification team is valuable, as is familiarity with formal techniques, assertions, and silicon bring-up.

Hands-on experience with test planning, portable testbenches, transactors, and assembly code is expected, along with exposure to simulators, coverage tools, gate-level simulation, waveform viewers, and formal proof tools. You should be comfortable owning a block or unit independently.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field plus 4+ years of experience in ASIC design, verification, validation, integration, or a related area; or a master’s degree plus 3+ years; or a PhD plus 2+ years in the same kinds of roles.
