Cost Control Engineer

Role Overview

This opportunity is for a Cost Control Engineer based in Doha, Qatar, within the construction, roads, and infrastructure sector. The position sits with a project team and focuses on keeping project spending under control, tracking financial performance, preparing forecasts, and ensuring costs stay within approved approvals and budgets.

What You Will Do

• Create and update project cost control plans, budgets, and cost reporting documents.
• Track actual spending against approved budgets, study variances, and spot emerging cost patterns.
• Build cost forecasts and cash flow projections, and flag any deviations or potential risks.
• Work closely with project teams to verify cost data and drive corrective actions where needed.
• Handle cost coding and make sure expenses are assigned correctly to the work breakdown structure.
• Review committed costs, accruals, and booked expenses to find mismatches and explain variances.
• Measure project health using indicators such as CPI, SPI, CV, and SV.
• Prepare and circulate KPI reports covering productivity, resource usage, cost allocation, and overall project performance.
• Assess subcontractor and supplier costs and contribute to initiatives that improve cost efficiency.
• Support change management by estimating financial impact and maintaining contingency provisions.
• Perform cost risk assessments and help improve cost control processes and systems over time.
• Guide and support junior cost engineers as needed.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of hands-on experience in cost control engineering.
• Background in construction, roads, and infrastructure projects.
• Direct experience with Ashghal road projects is compulsory.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
• Solid understanding of budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and project cost control.
• Practical experience with cost variance analysis, earned value management, and KPI reporting.
• Proficiency with ERP platforms, especially JD Edwards.
• Strong analytical, reporting, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
• Familiarity with cost control tools and forecasting methods.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with multiple project teams and stakeholders.
