Analyst (IT Network)

Role overview

This position focuses on the upkeep and reliability of the computing and networking setup within the Cyber Evaluation Test and Experimentation Centre (CyTEC). The role supports the creation and operation of realistic environments used for cyber training, exercises, and experimentation.

Key work areas

• Support the IT buildout for exercise networks and cyber defence toolsets used in CyTEC training programmes.
• Act as the primary technical specialist for designing virtual networks with hypervisor-based and other virtualisation technologies.
• Connect virtual network setups with operational technology testbeds, prototypes, and digital twins so that end-to-end training environments can be formed.
• Help deliver new training networks quickly whenever operational requirements change.
• Develop and sustain training environments that closely mirror the complexity of defending IT systems in operational settings.

Challenges in the role

• Keeping pace with evolving IT developments so that systems remain relevant to future operational demands.
• Maintaining strong cyber and technical capability in IT networking to properly support training needs for defending IT systems.

Requirements

• A background in Computer Networks, Computer Science, or another discipline related to cyber security is preferred.
• Around 3 years or more of experience supporting cyber exercises, testbeds, or training environments is an advantage.
• Hands-on knowledge of enterprise IT infrastructure, including computers, networking, and virtualisation technologies, is needed.
• Professional cyber certifications will be beneficial.
• Working familiarity with cyber defence, monitoring, and investigation tools at a basic to intermediate level is expected.
• Experience using virtualisation platforms such as VMware and ESXi is useful.
• Ability to deploy and administer virtual and segmented IT networks for training or exercise scenarios is important.
