Role overview
The hiring team is looking for an experienced Senior Java & Microservices Application Support Engineer to join the Riyadh office. This position focuses on keeping critical business applications stable, responsive, and dependable, while also handling advanced technical troubleshooting and support for distributed microservices platforms.
The ideal professional will bring strong Java engineering experience, practical microservices knowledge, and a solid track record in L2/L3 production support.
Experience and location
Minimum experience required: 8+ years across development and production support.
Work location: Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This is an on-site role.
Application support and incident handling
- Deliver L2/L3 support for Java-based microservices applications in live environments.
- Investigate and fix difficult production incidents, including slow performance and service interruptions.
- Carry out root cause analysis and put preventive actions in place to reduce repeat issues.
- Track application behavior using observability platforms such as AppDynamics, Dynatrace, ELK, Splunk, and Grafana.
- Maintain SLA and OLA commitments and ensure incidents are resolved within agreed timelines.
Operations and platform maintenance
- Support microservices running in Kubernetes, OpenShift, and Docker-based environments.
- Review logs, thread dumps, heap dumps, and JVM statistics to identify technical problems.
- Manage deployments, patches, and configuration updates for application stability.
- Work with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and GitLab CI to support release execution.
Development support and enhancements
- Implement small code fixes and minor improvements in Java and Spring Boot applications.
- Take part in code reviews and performance optimization efforts.
- Partner with development teams to improve reliability, monitoring, and application behavior.
Integration and middleware support
- Support REST and SOAP APIs and related integrations.
- Resolve issues across API gateways and messaging platforms such as Kafka and RabbitMQ.
- Work with Oracle, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL databases for troubleshooting and query performance tuning.
Collaboration and reporting
- Coordinate closely with DevOps, infrastructure, and business stakeholders.
- Join major incident bridges and war room discussions when urgent issues arise.
- Share regular progress updates and incident reports with relevant teams.
Required technical background
Strong hands-on knowledge of Java 8/11/17, Spring Boot, microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, JSON, XML, debugging, and production support troubleshooting is expected.
Experience with monitoring and alerting tools, container platforms, cloud environments, databases, and CI/CD pipelines is also important for success in this role.
Preferred background
Prior experience in Banking or Financial Services is preferred. Exposure to ITIL-based support practices, security concepts such as OAuth2, JWT, and API security, and high-availability distributed systems will be an advantage.
