Role overview

This position is for a Lead Cost Engineer supporting a major mining project in Dhalm, Saudi Arabia. The role focuses on cost engineering leadership across estimating, analysis, reporting, and cost control for technically demanding project work.

Project context

The assignment is tied to the Ar Rjum Project, a greenfield gold development that includes three open-pit mining operations, waste dumps, an ore stockpile, a processing facility, tailings management systems, and the supporting infrastructure needed for water, power, maintenance, offices, and both temporary and permanent accommodation.

The site is in the Central Arabian Gold Region, around 200 km north-east of Taif toward Riyadh and about 26 km south of Al Mouwayh on the Jeddah-Riyadh highway.

What you will do

You will guide staffing and project controls input for cost engineering work, prepare detailed staffing plans, review proposal terms related to cost engineering and material control, and support contract pricing discussions. The role also involves developing cost studies, monitoring trends, and applying structured cost control methods to deliver practical solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead cost estimating, analysis, and control work on projects with complex or highly specialized requirements.
• Identify practical and innovative approaches to cost engineering challenges.
• Set up and apply project cost control procedures in line with company and client requirements, contractual terms, and project objectives.
• Keep work moving on schedule while supporting the project team with organizational and administrative tasks.
• Build cost studies using historical information, statistical methods, and comparisons of costs and quantities.
• Review cost trends, assess their impact on efficiency, and recommend alternatives where needed.
• Maintain effective communication with other teams to support cost analysis and control activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or international equivalent plus 10-13 years of relevant experience, or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.
• Proven experience leading project cost engineering work, including cost control, analysis, reporting, incurred cost assessment, and meeting facilitation.
• Experience defining criteria for project controls cost activities and handling cost, commitment, and incurred cost analysis and management.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present project controls information to management and clients.
• Advanced knowledge of engineering, procurement, contracts, construction, and start-up work processes.
• Understanding of engineering and construction management developed through specialized study or hands-on experience.
