About the Company
Texas Sports Academy is a K-12 school focused on students who are serious about both academics and athletics. Its learning model is built around delivering the equivalent of a heavy academic workload in only two hours each day, following an approach adapted from Alpha Schools. This structure is designed so that students can spend their afternoons in advanced athletic training led by former professional and Division I athletes. The organization’s broader mission is to shape disciplined, high-performing students by combining strong classroom outcomes with elite sports development.
About the Role
The organization is hiring a Junior Full-Stack Product Engineer to build web applications and internal tools that support its campuses. This is a great opportunity for an early-career engineer who enjoys creating practical, user-focused products and can take ownership of features from concept to release. The role involves working across the full stack in a TypeScript environment, using React and Tailwind on the frontend, Node.js and API routes on the backend, and Postgres for data storage. You will partner with cross-functional stakeholders to design, build, deploy, and refine polished applications that are reliable, responsive, and useful in day-to-day operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Own full-stack features from the interface layer through to the database in a TypeScript-based codebase.
- Create responsive and intuitive user interfaces with React and Tailwind CSS.
- Develop and support backend API routes, data structures, and Postgres queries.
- Work with stakeholders to understand business needs and turn them into working product features.
- Release features to production, review performance, and improve them based on user input.
- Design database schemas, write migrations, and tune queries for better performance.
- Build integrations and webhooks that connect the platform with external systems such as Google Workspace, Slack, and AI services.
- Handle operational concerns including logging, error management, and system monitoring to keep products stable.
- Participate in code reviews, contribute to code quality, and follow sound engineering practices.
- Share progress regularly, identify blockers early, and help ensure features are delivered on time.
Qualifications
- Hands-on experience building full-stack applications in TypeScript across both frontend and backend layers.
- Experience creating database schemas and writing SQL for Postgres.
- Working knowledge of React, Next.js, and Tailwind CSS.
- Understanding of Node.js, API route development, and server-side programming.
- Ability to launch production-ready features and improve them using real-world feedback.
- Strong product thinking with the ability to define scope and prioritize effectively.
- Experience with data modeling, migrations, and query optimization.
- Exposure to third-party integrations such as Google Workspace, Slack, and Notion.
- Comfort with operational responsibilities like monitoring, logging, and error handling.
- Clear communication skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Benefits
- Competitive compensation package.
- Flexible remote work arrangement within the United States.
- Opportunity to contribute to products used by real users.
- Collaborative and forward-thinking team environment.
- Room for professional development and skill growth.
- Access to modern tools and technologies.
- Part of a mission-led organization centered on education and athletic excellence.
