This position is responsible for carrying, delivering, and collecting mail over a rural route using a vehicle, while also supporting customers along that route with a range of postal services.

Driving requirement
A valid state driver’s license is required, along with a clean driving history and at least two years of unsupervised experience operating a passenger vehicle or a larger vehicle. This driving experience must have been gained in the United States, its territories or possessions, or on U.S. military installations worldwide.
Language requirement
The role requires the ability to speak, read, and understand English, with or without a reasonable accommodation under the Rehabilitation Act.
Employment conditions
Any offer of employment depends on the applicant meeting medical suitability standards, general eligibility rules, suitability standards, and background check requirements. In some cases, work may begin before all conditions are finalized, but continued employment remains conditional on meeting them.
Compensation
The starting wage is $21.89 per hour and can go up to $26.69 per hour. Pay is issued bi-weekly.

Assessment and background check
If an examination is required and you are selected, instructions will be sent by email. Applicants must complete the Virtual Entry Assessment MC (474). A criminal background review is performed using only U.S. sources, including FBI fingerprint records and state and county checks, and covers the prior 10 years for any residence, work, or schooling in the United States or its territories.
Functional purpose
The role involves sorting, delivering, and collecting mail on an assigned rural route by vehicle, along with providing customers on that route with postal assistance and services.
Key duties
- Organize mail in delivery order for the assigned route.
- Receive and verify accountable mail items.
- Load mail into the delivery vehicle.
- Deliver mail on a regular schedule, collect payments and receipts for accountable mail, and pick up mail from roadside boxes.
- Sell stamps, stamped paper, and money orders; accept C.O.D., registered, certified, insured, and parcel post mail; provide routine postal guidance and required forms.
- Return collected and undeliverable mail, and turn in monies and receipts to the post office.
- Prepare forwarding mail and keep change-of-address records updated.
- Complete daily trip reports and maintain the route customer list.
- Carry out special surveys when needed.
- Maintain stock of stamps and stamped paper to support customer service on the route.
- Protect mail security at all times.
Physical demands
This position requires the ability to handle strenuous work, including extended standing, walking, bending, and reaching. It may also involve lifting heavy mail containers up to the permitted maximum mailing weight.
