About the Role

The Practicum Program Coordinator is a key member of the Media, Creative Arts, and Social Inquiry Practicum Program team at Curtin University. This role focuses on delivering exceptional practicum learning experiences for students, particularly emphasizing Libraries, Archives, Records, and Information Science disciplines. The coordinator ensures alignment with priorities of stakeholders, including professional and industry partners.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and secure appropriate practicum sites by negotiating fieldwork agreements both within Australia and internationally.
  • Evaluate students' skills following the Practicum Program's policies to align student placements effectively.
  • Review risk assessments and travel requests to manage and mitigate associated risks.
  • Ensure practicum sites provide a high standard of professional, safe practice environments.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to create sustainable placement opportunities.
  • Conduct site visits, either physically or virtually, to assess program effectiveness through data collection and report preparation.
  • Support students and host organizations throughout placement duration to ensure successful experiences.
  • Lead creation and enhancement of both written and online materials to improve student and host organization engagement in the practicum.
  • Develop, implement, and review policies and procedures to continuously improve the Practicum Program's quality of service.
  • Promote the Practicum Program to industry professionals and students utilizing presentations and various communication methods.
  • Model exemplary professional and personal conduct in line with the University's standards, values, and signature behaviors.
  • Perform other reasonable duties consistent with the position’s responsibilities.

Candidate Requirements

  • Established experience in managing projects and programs, demonstrating a consistent record of meeting goals while fostering continuous improvement.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to communicate and negotiate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including capabilities in report writing and public speaking.
  • Proven negotiation and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to function autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Proficient user of information technology, including internet navigation and Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with SONIA and other relevant fieldwork placement platforms.
  • Experience in the education sector is advantageous but not mandatory.

Additional Requirements

  • This is a fixed-term contract requiring valid work authorization for Australia matching the contract duration.
  • Employment is contingent upon passing a National Police Clearance, background checks, integrity verification, and reference validation satisfactory to Curtin University.

Employment Conditions and Benefits

  • Salary range between $109,277 and $117,331 plus 17% superannuation.
