Role overview
This offshore Mechanical Supervisor position is responsible for overseeing the safe, efficient, and reliable maintenance of mechanical systems across the Al Shaheen facilities. The role safeguards asset integrity and operational performance in line with company standards, while also carrying greater leadership and contractor coordination duties due to recent growth in team size and maintenance scope.
Reporting line and team
The position reports to the Operations Team Lead and the Offshore Installation Manager. It directly oversees Mechanical Technicians and Rotating Equipment Technicians.
Key accountabilities
- Lead a technician team that supports the safe delivery of about 65,000 bopd.
- Serve as the Performing Authority and make sure all mechanical work follows the Permit to Work process and company rules.
- Ensure planned and corrective maintenance for the mechanical discipline is completed on time.
- Contribute technical guidance to stakeholders for campaign and project execution.
Work scope and site dimensions
The role is based offshore at the Al Shaheen Field, classified as a C site within the NOC Offshore Field. The working environment involves around 8+ staff/contractors and an average of 20 vendors annually, with approximately 40 permits raised each week. Day-to-day coordination includes the OTL, OIM, OC team, and other FOP entities as needed.
Operational duties
- Coordinate maintenance and repair of static and rotating equipment, turbines, and compressors to keep platform operations stable and compliant with operating instructions.
- Ensure inspections are performed as part of the preventive maintenance program so equipment continues to operate normally.
- Prevent or correct mechanical failures and emergencies that could interrupt production.
- Create SAP work orders, including material requirements and accurate estimated labor hours.
- Coordinate people and logistics during maintenance jobs to maintain quality and efficiency.
- Keep the mechanical maintenance backlog within company targets.
- Provide site feedback for modifications, upgrades, and improvement work to support implementation.
- Support safe delivery of core operations by managing maintenance activities alongside maintenance and well service campaigns and E&C work.
- Share feedback with Operating Authority to improve uptime, reduce risk, raise productivity, and lower costs.
- Participate in daily permit meetings and ensure strict adherence to company requirements for safe platform work.
- Coach, guide, and support team members so targets are achieved.
- Encourage a high-performance mindset, including innovation around process safety and asset integrity.
- Act as an Emergency Response Team member according to HSE training matrix and platform needs.
- Represent the company professionally and ethically when dealing with internal and external stakeholders.
- Promote cost awareness across stakeholder groups to strengthen cost discipline.
Maintenance and integrity focus
- Supervise preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance for mechanical static and rotating assets such as pumps, compressors, turbines, valves, heat exchangers, and pressure vessels.
- Take part in the 5-week IOP planning cycle as a key contributor.
- Investigate operating upsets and perform root cause analysis using 5-Why methods to improve reliability and integrity.
- Review and fine-tune preventive maintenance tasks and frequencies in SAP so they support reliability and performance goals.
- Work with Planning and Asset Integrity teams to manage deferrals, backlog, and job prioritization.
- Help develop and apply improved maintenance and integrity methods, including technical reviews and work-management audits to strengthen best practices and SAP data quality.
Projects, shutdowns, and handover
- Provide mechanical support and supervision for shutdowns, modifications, and new installation work.
- Participate in pre-commissioning, commissioning, and handover of new mechanical systems and equipment, including PSSR.
- Help connect project and maintenance teams so asset integrity is protected and operational disruption is minimized.
Safety, compliance, and emergency readiness
- Set the standard for safety by ensuring all mechanical work follows HSE procedures and NOC Life Saving Rules.
- Run toolbox talks, safety observations, and job safety analyses before work begins, and enforce isolation, Permit to Work, and eCoW procedures.
- Encourage IF+ Champions to raise HSE concerns and improvement ideas.
- As part of the Emergency Command Centre, remain prepared to respond to incidents under NOC response procedures.
Leadership and people management
- Develop an expanding team of technicians and contractors through coaching, competency checks, and performance reviews.
- Lead contractors, vendors, and field service representatives to meet quality, schedule, and safety expectations.
- Promote collaboration across Production, C&I, E&C, and campaign teams.
Environment and working arrangement
The job is offshore, based on a rotational schedule in the Arabian Gulf, about 80 km northeast of Qatar. The role operates in a demanding offshore environment with practical limitations on work execution and requires strong oversight of safety-critical mechanical systems.
Qualifications and experience
A Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent qualification, is required. The role calls for at least 10 years of experience in oil and gas production operations or comparable mechanical systems work in a similar industry.
Competencies and behaviors
Candidates should have a strong grasp of process safety practices and the ability to set operational goals, build performance culture, and work proactively. The role also requires comfort working with large teams in a complex, multicultural setting, along with strong leadership, communication, analytical ability, fluent written and spoken English, and computer literacy.
