About the role
This position is part of Scotiabank’s Global Payments Technology team in Canada, supporting payment technology initiatives both locally and globally. The team focuses on modernizing systems, safely adopting new technologies, and improving transparency and customer experiences in a fast-changing payments environment. The role is tied to delivering team objectives in line with internal policies, procedures, and regulatory expectations.
Key responsibilities
- Support a customer-first approach that strengthens client relationships and uses the Bank’s wider systems and knowledge effectively.
- Develop scalable, well-supported micro frontends in ReactJS and backend-for-frontend services in NodeJS.
- Create backend APIs using the Spring Boot stack.
- Produce clean, maintainable code and accompanying documentation with limited supervision.
- Assist with feature documentation and collaborate with teammates during reviews.
- Take part in code reviews, unit testing, and debugging activities.
- Help implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines.
- Contribute ideas during design discussions and suggest practical improvements.
- Deploy applications and services and help monitor them in GCP and Azure environments.
- Work under the direction of senior developers and team leads.
- Consider risk appetite and risk culture in everyday decisions and activities.
- Operate in line with Scotiabank’s values, Code of Conduct, Global Sales Principles, and business control requirements covering operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions, and conduct risk.
- Contribute to a strong performance culture and help maintain an inclusive workplace.
Required skills and experience
- Hands-on familiarity with ReactJS and the NodeJS ecosystem for frontend development.
- Working knowledge of Spring Boot for building backend services.
- Understanding of software engineering best practices, including testing and debugging.
- Knowledge of CI/CD, Git, and standard Git workflows.
- Awareness of Agile delivery methods and how they apply in software development.
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as GCP and Azure.
- Strong problem-solving ability and clear communication skills.
- Willingness to learn, collaborate, and grow in a team environment.
