Overview
This is a full-time, permanent bookkeeping opportunity based in Worcestershire / Herefordshire for a well-established multi-site business. The company is looking for someone who can independently manage everyday financial administration, handle a large transaction flow, and contribute reliably in a busy working environment. The position is suited to an experienced bookkeeper who wants a long-term move with room to grow.
The role works closely with internal colleagues and serves as the main day-to-day link with external accountants and advisers. Over time, there is a clear development path toward a wider finance leadership role, including the possibility of progressing into Financial Controller responsibilities.
What you'll do
- Take charge of all routine bookkeeping activity and keep financial processing accurate and efficient.
- Handle substantial volumes of transactions while maintaining consistency and control.
- Manage both purchase ledger and sales ledger operations.
- Perform reconciliations for bank accounts, supplier accounts, and control accounts.
- Lead credit control activity, including monitoring overdue balances and managing customer debt.
- Work with teams across multiple sites to make sure financial data stays accurate and up to date.
- Act as the main daily contact for external accountants and professional advisers.
- Compile information needed for month-end, year-end, audits, and financial reporting.
- Prepare regular bookkeeping and finance reports for senior management.
- Help with month-end close tasks and associated reporting.
- Look into discrepancies and resolve accounting or financial queries.
- Keep records accurate and aligned with internal finance procedures.
- Contribute to ongoing improvements in finance systems, processes, and controls.
What we're looking for
The ideal candidate will be organised, self-motivated, and comfortable communicating with colleagues, customers, suppliers, and external professionals. This is a practical, hands-on position for someone who can take ownership and work well without close supervision.
Essential experience and skills
- At least 3 years of bookkeeping experience in a busy commercial setting.
- A strong track record of handling high transaction volumes.
- Background in credit control and debtor management.
- Experience dealing with external accountants or similar advisers.
- Excellent accuracy and a strong eye for detail.
- Confident communication and relationship-building ability.
- Capability to manage priorities and work independently.
- Well-developed organisation and problem-solving skills.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
What the role offers
- Annual salary of £30,000 to £35,000, based on experience.
- A role with variety, autonomy, and real day-to-day responsibility.
- A supportive team environment with collaborative working.
- Close interaction with senior management.
- Long-term career potential in a stable, established business.
- A competitive benefits package.
