Role Overview
The Sampler will be responsible for collecting water and wastewater samples, and sludge where needed, following the required procedure and documenting all related information accurately. The role also includes driving company vehicles for sampling visits, moving staff and equipment, carrying out basic vehicle upkeep, and ensuring health and safety standards are followed at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect onsite samples of water and wastewater, including sludge where applicable, and capture all required details in the correct records.
- Take other sample types when instructed and ensure the collection method follows the approved process.
- Operate company vehicles for sampling trips and transport of staff, materials, and equipment.
- Drive carefully at all times and comply fully with road traffic rules.
- Deliver samples to QuantiLAB according to instructions and complete the relevant sample documentation.
- Perform basic maintenance on the company vehicle to keep it in safe and working condition.
- Handle minor roadside repairs when necessary, including tyre changes, puncture planning, checking with a tyre gauge, cleaning distributor points, and fixing simple ignition or lighting issues.
- Maintain an accurate vehicle logbook and record every trip properly.
- Apply health and safety procedures consistently at the sampling site, while driving, and in the laboratory.
- Carry out official errands such as dispatching correspondence and ensure items are delivered to the correct recipients and acknowledged in the dispatch register.
- Document sampling data and operational details, including the procedure used, sample identification, environmental conditions where relevant, and sketches or other references to show sampling locations.
Qualifications and Requirements
- A valid driving licence with a clean record is required.
- School Certificate or Higher School Certificate is needed.
- One to two years of experience would be an advantage.
- Willingness to work unusual hours and public holidays is necessary.
- The candidate should demonstrate integrity and professionalism.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions are important.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills are expected.
Additional Information
This is an onsite full-time position based in Vacoas, Plaines Wilhems District, Mauritius. The role involves field sampling, vehicle use, and operational support tasks.
Working Conditions
The selected candidate must be prepared to work outside standard hours, including public holidays, as required by the job.
