About the Company

Analog Devices is a global semiconductor company focused on connecting the physical and digital worlds through analog, digital, and software technologies. Its solutions support progress in areas such as smart manufacturing, mobility, and digital healthcare, while also helping address climate change and improve dependable human-machine connectivity. The company reported more than $9 billion in revenue in FY24 and has about 24,000 employees worldwide.

Role Overview

The Sustainable Automation business unit is looking for a driven and inventive Analog Layout Engineer to contribute to advanced silicon solutions for Industry 4.0 applications. This Limerick-based role offers the chance to work on cutting-edge industrial automation products, including industrial communications, precision analog and digital I/O, and systems designed for harsh high-voltage environments. The position is senior, hands-on, and technically influential, with scope to shape layout direction and collaborate across analog and digital design, physical implementation, and CAD teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own layout delivery for full-chip and large analog/mixed-signal blocks from floorplanning through tapeout.
  • Develop floorplans at block, subsystem, and full-chip level for highly complex designs.
  • Lead top-level integration of mixed-signal chips and coordinate with IP owners and digital physical design teams as needed.
  • Manage schedule and milestones for the assigned layout scope, including resource and execution planning where relevant.
  • Drive physical verification closure, covering DRC, LVS, ERC, antenna, density, extraction, and signoff documentation.
  • Coordinate parasitic extraction and support post-layout simulation/debug to meet performance goals.
  • Close reliability and robustness items such as EM/IR, ESD-conscious layout, latch-up prevention, and isolation strategy.
  • Apply strong analog layout practices including matching, shielding, noise isolation, supply integrity, and substrate/well strategy.
  • Work closely with circuit design, verification/validation, packaging, foundry, assembly, reliability, and failure analysis teams to achieve design closure.
  • Improve methodologies through checklists, templates, reusable assets, and automation or scripting where appropriate to reduce rework.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior layout engineers and help shape team standards.
  • Communicate status, risks, and supporting material clearly for design reviews and stakeholder updates.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronic, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 10 years of full-custom IC layout experience on analog or mixed-signal designs at block and/or full-chip level.
  • Strong command of industry-standard custom layout tools and verification/signoff flows.
  • Proven ability to take layouts through signoff, including debugging physical verification issues to closure.
  • Deep understanding of analog layout fundamentals such as matching, shielding, noise isolation, substrate/well strategy, latch-up prevention, and ESD-aware layout.
  • Self-driven ownership approach with consistent follow-through on complex layout challenges.
  • Well-developed planning and organization skills for managing timelines and milestones.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills with the ability to produce clear technical documentation.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multi-discipline, globally distributed teams.

Preferred Experience

  • Background as a layout chip lead or top-level integration lead on large mixed-signal designs.
  • Experience working in advanced CMOS process nodes.
  • Familiarity with top-down integration approaches such as Analog-on-Top and Digital-on-Top flows.
  • Experience integrating large digital IP and working alongside digital physical design teams.
  • Exposure to high-voltage layout and/or BiCMOS technologies.
  • Scripting or automation experience using tools such as SKILL, PERL, AMPLE, or similar.
  • Experience creating PCELLs.
  • A track record of improving methodologies, reusable IP, checklists, and documentation in ways that reduce rework.

Additional Information

This role may require export licensing review for access to technical data. Applicants other than U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents, and protected individuals under the relevant U.S. statute may need to complete an export licensing process through the appropriate U.S. government agencies.
