About the role
Vokal, a boutique digital agency, is hiring an Associate Creative Director with a strong design foundation for its growing Chicago team. This role sits at the intersection of leadership and hands-on craft, with roughly half the time focused on guiding teams and the other half on producing design work directly. You will partner with cross-functional stakeholders to turn business goals and brand strategy into memorable experiences for clients and their audiences.
The team brings together seasoned digital talent from high-growth startups and experienced leaders from agency and marketing backgrounds, creating a strong mix of digital transformation expertise.
What you will do
- Own the creative direction for projects, including smaller engagements that require minimal oversight.
- Guide design, copy, and multimedia contributors to deliver polished and original brand work.
- Spend about 50% of your time on direct design execution across multiple disciplines.
- Shape brand systems through strategy, visual identity, and flexible guidelines/toolkits.
- Develop and deliver digital campaign concepts, especially for paid social and performance marketing.
- Edit video content and create light motion graphics such as animated logos, text treatments, and other visual elements.
- Concept and build digital experiences aimed at improving conversion for ecommerce and lead-generation websites.
- Collaborate with clients to understand their business goals, brand personality, and creative needs.
- Run brainstorming sessions and lead ideation to generate strong brand experience concepts.
- Coach and support creative team members while encouraging growth, collaboration, and high standards.
- Review creative output carefully to ensure quality, consistency, and client alignment.
- Keep up with design trends, emerging tools, and evolving creative practices.
Preferred qualifications
- 8 to 10 years of relevant experience.
- Strong command of Adobe Creative Suite and design platforms such as Figma.
- A degree in design, or equivalent agency experience as an Associate Creative Director or senior designer.
