Site Reliability Engineer

Role overview

Air New Zealand is looking for a Site Reliability Engineer to help keep the digital platforms that support the airline dependable, secure, and available for customers and staff. This position focuses on improving resilience, automating routine operations, and supporting scalable technology solutions across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the stability, uptime, and responsiveness of essential business platforms and services.
• Respond to incidents, work toward rapid service recovery, and reduce the effect on customers.
• Diagnose and fix issues spanning applications, infrastructure, integrations, and cloud-based systems.
• Help design and strengthen secure, scalable, and highly available cloud infrastructure.
• Develop and improve automation, monitoring, and observability tools to make operations more efficient.
• Work with development teams to build reliability, supportability, and operational readiness into new solutions.
• Participate in incident response and support ongoing improvement efforts.
• Join an on-call roster for business-critical systems when needed.

What we are looking for

• Background in Site Reliability Engineering, cloud engineering, platform engineering, systems engineering, or a similar technical field.
• Practical experience with cloud services such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Exposure to infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Ability to script or automate tasks using Python, Shell, PowerShell, or similar tools.
• Working knowledge of monitoring, observability, incident handling, and operational support methods.
• Understanding of networking, operating systems, and current infrastructure technologies.
• Strong analytical thinking and a genuine interest in improving reliability and operational performance.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work with both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.
